POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m proud to share this Channel 2 story, and emotional about what it took to get here.

After Cairo was born, I experienced postpartum preeclampsia and depression. I was trying to recover and care for my baby while feeling more alone than I knew how to say out loud. My Postpartum Pal grew from that time—from wishing I had somewhere gentle to turn when I didn’t want to explain everything to another person.

Being able to speak publicly about it matters to me. If sharing my experience helps one mother recognize that she deserves support, it is worth telling.

Thank you to Channel 2 and Berndt Petersen for listening and for helping this story reach other families.

Well… this happened today. šŸ„¹šŸ’›

My Postpartum Pal made the news.

Today I sat down with 11Alive to talk about something that is deeply personal to me: what happens to mothers after the baby arrives, when so much of the attention, care and support suddenly shifts away from them.

I created My Postpartum Pal because postpartum mothers deserve somewhere to land. Somewhere that doesn’t ask them to track another thing, perform wellness, or have the perfect words. Just support, when they need it.

And today, we got to talk about that need on a much bigger stage.

The story is already live on 11Alive, (Link in bio) and I’ll also be featured on the 5 PM news tonight! 🤯

This is bigger than an app for me. It’s about changing the conversation around postpartum care and making sure mothers know they still matter after birth.

If you’re in Atlanta, tune in to 11Alive at 5 PM. ā¤ļø

A huge thank you to @fjessie and @allenjamel for helping me tell this story with so much care and intention. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring this conversation about postpartum mothers to a much bigger audience.

And to every mama who has ever wondered, ā€œWhat about me?ā€

My Postpartum Pal is officially live in the App Store—and this is only the beginning. šŸ’›

I created this free app for the moments when a mama needs someone to talk to, vent to, celebrate with, or simply sit beside her through a long night.

There’s no baby tracking. No pressure to measure your progress. And no attempt to diagnose or fix you.

This is support for the mama.

Now, we’re building the next phase: a trusted network of postpartum practitioners and a matching tool that will help mamas find support aligned with their actual needs—not just scroll through another overwhelming directory.

I’m currently looking for:

✨ Therapists
✨ Doulas
✨ Lactation professionals
✨ Pelvic-floor specialists
✨ Maternal wellness providers
✨ Other practitioners specializing in postpartum care

If you’re a mama, download My Postpartum Pal for free and tell us what would help you feel more supported.

If you’re a practitioner who wants to be considered for the growing My Postpartum Pal network, complete the interest form.

Both links are in my bio.

The app is live. The vision is growing. And I’m building what I wish every mama had access to. šŸ’› by @consultkenya

Yesterday, I attended a conversation about closing the Black maternal mortality gap, and I kept coming back to something I’ve been thinking about since my own pregnancy and postpartum experience.

Maternal healthcare does not consistently integrate mental healthcare. And that’s a problem.

During my high-risk pregnancy, I had an obstetrician and a perinatal care team. I had additional ultrasounds, regular appointments, and providers who proactively reached out to schedule the care I needed.

But mental health? That was different.

Even after experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety, accessing ongoing mental health support was largely left up to me. I was given a referral, but I was responsible for making the call, scheduling the appointment, and navigating the next steps.

And that’s the distinction I keep thinking about.

Being referred to mental healthcare is not the same as having mental healthcare integrated into your care.

We know that maternal health risks don’t end at delivery. We also know that mental health conditions are among the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths.

So why isn’t mental healthcare routinely woven into prenatal care, high-risk pregnancy management, hospital discharge, and postpartum follow-up?

We shouldn’t expect mothers who are already physically recovering, emotionally overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, or struggling to be the sole coordinators of their own mental health support.

We need a maternal healthcare system that treats mental health as essential, not supplemental.

And we need that support to be proactive, accessible, and continuous.

That’s part of why I created My Postpartum Pal. Not to replace clinical care, but to help make emotional support easier to access during a period when so many mothers are expected to figure things out alone.

Maternal healthcare must care for the whole mother.

Grateful for the important perspectives shared by Dr. Denise Howard and Onesa Anozie, MSW, LMSW, during this conversation about closing the Black maternal mortality gap.

Life lately
A little of this-a little of that

Celebrating my new niece, my new waist, sexy date nights, family time, working, "newsing", designing new concepts for MPP version 2, meeting with my mentee, mommin', reviewing content for project 120, smelling new babies, and being the lowest weight I've been since 2025.

No complaints.

Life is amazing, it is as it should be. by @consultkenya

Android friends, I need your help.

I created My Postpartum Pal after my own experience with postpartum depression because mothers deserve support—and I’m committed to keeping it free.

It’s available on iPhone, and I’m working to bring it to Android. I’m looking for 15–20 people with Android phones who can try the app, explore its features and share honest feedback.

You don’t have to be postpartum to help test it. If you’re interested, message me ā€œANDROID,ā€ and I’ll send instructions when testing is ready.

Your help could make this resource available to more mothers. by @consultkenya

Sometimes equity looks like giving up a little of your privilege.

Not because you should feel guilty for having access. Not because you have to make yourself smaller. But because sometimes the cost of meeting you where you are is significantly higher than the cost of you meeting someone else where they are.

If I can comfortably afford the expensive restaurant and you can’t, asking you to ā€œjust come anywayā€ might mean asking you to stretch your budget, sit there and order nothing, decline the invitation altogether, or quietly carry the embarrassment of saying, ā€œI can’t afford that.ā€

Meanwhile, choosing a restaurant we can both afford might cost me…nothing.

That difference matters.

We talk a lot about giving people access to the rooms we’re privileged enough to enter. But sometimes inclusion isn’t about figuring out how to get someone into your room.

Sometimes you choose a different room.

Sometimes you take the cheaper flight.
Sometimes you pick the accessible venue.
Sometimes you change the tradition.
Sometimes you give up the convenience, the upgrade, the preference, the thing you could absolutely have—because someone you care about would have to pay a much steeper price to have it with you.

Privilege isn’t only about what you can access.

It’s also about how easily you can afford to adjust.

And there is something deeply loving about saying: I could ask you to stretch to reach me, but it costs me far less to come meet you.

That’s not charity.

That’s consideration.
That’s community.
That’s what it looks like when access becomes something we practice, not just something we talk about. by @consultkenya

What does your day ask of you before you get to pick up your child, care for someone you love, or finally take a breath?

Maybe it’s client work, follow-ups, paperwork, decisions, and showing up for a friend. Then the next part of your day begins.

Today, mine ends with picking up Cairo. I work hard because I have to. I know a lot of you do, too.

The quality of your business will mirror the strength of your decisions.

The word decide comes from the Latin decidere — de (ā€œoffā€) + caedere (ā€œto cutā€).

To decide is, quite literally, to cut off.

At some point, you have to cut off the version of yourself that keeps one foot near the exit.

The constant questioning.
The need for everyone to understand the vision.
The habit of treating what you want like it’s optional.

Talent matters. Ideas matter. Hard work matters.

But eventually, you have to choose what you’re building — and move accordingly.

So here’s the question:

What have you decided?

Not what you’re trying to do.
Not what you hope happens.

What have you decided?

Drop it in the comments. Say it plainly. šŸ‘‡šŸ¾ by @consultkenya

How much of yourself have you been taught to leave at the door in order to be taken seriously?

Maybe you avoid certain conversations because they feel ā€œtoo politicalā€ for your business page.

Maybe you soften your convictions, hide parts of your identity or second-guess what you know because you’re afraid someone will call you emotional, biased or unprofessional.

But what if the parts of yourself you’ve been editing out are part of what makes your work valuable?

The decision in the Nolan Wells case brought this question to the surface for me. But this conversation is bigger than one case—or one person’s response to it.

It’s about what happens when we confuse professionalism with neutrality.

Your lived experience shapes what you notice.

It influences the questions you ask, the patterns you recognize, the people you remember to include and the possibilities you can imagine.

That isn’t a liability.

That is insight.

Experience does not replace skill. But it can deepen it.

You can care deeply and still bring clarity, nuance and rigor to your work. You can have a perspective without losing your ability to listen. You can speak honestly without making your identity your entire brand.

You do not have to erase yourself to be credible.

The strongest teams, organizations and ideas are rarely built by people who all see the world the same way. They are built when different perspectives are respected enough to challenge what everyone else has accepted.

So here is the question:

What part of yourself have you been editing out—and what might become possible if you finally allowed it into the room?
