Customer had issues shifting the front mech, unfortunately it looks like all is a bit bent and twisted to the point it gave up and cracked. New mech fitted and adjusted and all is well! So, at almost 1,200 followers, I feel like I need to share a story. Not necessarily the best one, but one I feel I need to share. When Covid started, I went from working full-time to having the opportunity to do my own thing. I had a mobile mechanic business, which I ran part-time, and this eventually became a full-time brick-and-mortar shop under the new name of Holden Cycles. It became a destination shop at a rural location on a popular cycle route, based at a popular pub. It became popular with local cycling clubs, including VC Deal, as a stop-off point for coffee and cake. We also took on premises in Canterbury, which was going to become my main shop. Unfortunately, as Covid spread across the world, Italy went into lockdown and my order was cancelled. So, the shop became a bar called Fred — an indie-vibe bar with a skateboarding twist. It became very popular with students and others. While that was running, we were also doing pizza takeaway called The Griff Shack, so I became very involved, either as a chef, delivery driver or bar manager. This also led to me helping run the pubs when lockdown was lifted. I learnt how to clean beer lines, as well as about the day-to-day running of pubs and hotels. Unfortunately, the cycle shop didn’t get my full attention, and I eventually had to step away from all of this. Sadly, I was very much misguided, and everything fell apart. Along with everything else, I lost my money and income. I wasn’t happy with the way things went, and I still have debts and people I left out of pocket, which I will eventually sort out. Life is a learning curve. This has been a very difficult time, but it has also made me stronger. I was asked to delete my original account as I had gained followers, etc. I had around 1,200 followers when I closed my account, and now I’m close to getting those numbers back. It’s taken years, but life is hard. I guess the important thing is to hold your head high, learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward. So, I am genuinely grateful for everyone who follows me, and I’m sorry to those I let down. I will sort out any loose ends. Also to learn about the general running on the loco. From The anthracite coal too knowing when to have the blower on and injector. Two check overs on some @giantbicycles Defy and TCR. The Defy was a general service and inspection as a suspect creaking noise was coming from around the seat area. Process of elimination found the post was rather dry and dusty, a good strip down and clean of components with a small amount of carbon assembly paste and all seemed ok. Discovered the headset was loose, checked bearings and steerer bung of which was ok followed by a bolt check and test ride and it was all ok. The TCR had a few more issues, the customer unfortunately came off and the impact had upset a few things rear mech hanger was bent leaving some cosmetic damage. The gear cables going into the inline cable adjuster had started to split. So removed the inner cable, trimmed down the outlets and replaced the inner cable. Front and rear brakes where dragging, reset the pistons and replaced adjusted the calipers so they where inline and aligned the calipers. Followed by a bolt check and test ride, all was well! Thanks Chaz for being patient for your puncture repair on your ebike, you seemed to be pretty screwed on your ride home! Fitted a new tube with some slime tyre sealant to prevent you getting a flat and to get you home if it happens again. Service carried out on this @cube.bikes on Tuesday. Replaced the tired @shimanomtb freehub body. Straightened the mech hanger and replaced the bent Deore shadow plus rear mech. Replaced the inner and outer gear cable so it ran silky smooth. Replaced front and rear @magura_bicycle pads as the MT7 were quite low. Fitted some slime tubes as the customer has had some bad experiences with tubeless and wanted a simple solution. Went to inspect, collect and service this bike for a customer today to make sure it was an ok buy. Trek Bicycle Company Pro Cailbre 9.7 with lots of upgrades. Bottom bracket was long gone so removed and replaced with a new SRAM MTB dub pressfit unit. Updated all firmwear for the gears and dropper post. Follow my @trackside_chris for trains! After a hard day of signal box training on Friday, Saturday was spent at New Romney shop selling tickets with Sue. We had a busy morning right through until lunch, followed by some more practice filling out the train register with Charlie in Romney Box.

Then came the highlight of the day — a footplate ride with Seb on “Winston Churchill”. What a way to finish the day! 🚂🔥

A great visit to the Weald of Kent Steam and Country Fair. All my childhood memories come flooding back when I caught up with some friends and there Avling and Porter steam roller “Sammy Lou”. I had the opportunity to help Barry steer the roller from the show grown to Rolvenden railway yard, of which I happily said yes!
