What happens when the world changes faster than our understanding of it?

Walking through Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso at SAM, I thought about these artists grappling with this question over a century ago.

Photography, electricity, industry and psychology were reshaping society. The old ways of seeing no longer felt enough.

Standing in the gallery, I couldn’t help thinking about today.

AI. Climate. Biotechnology.

Another moment where the ground beneath us feels like it’s shifting.

Perhaps the role of artists and designers has never really changed.

Imagine sitting here on a clear night under a star filled sky. Roasting marshmallow and telling stories, with the twinkle of moonlight reflected off the sea beyond…

Open for the @outlandishventures ALC23, it was an honour to share this garden that I worked on with @kateseddon_landscapedesign and @gardeneuphoria

The strong yet soft curved walls gently articulate the broad space, frame views and create moments of prospect and refuge. The restrained design seeks to honour the existing vegetation, sweeping contours and sense of expanse.

And of course none of this possible without the amazing construction by @leaverlandscapesvic and wonderful clients 😍

With 15+ years in the industry, Daisy Richmond-Smith has become our go-to expert for wayfinding strategy and environmental psychology.

With an ability to create spaces that immerse and connect people with nature, Daisy thoroughly considers contexts of place to evoke deeper meaning and respect for the land in which we work with.

With @architectureanddesignaustralia, Daisy reflects on the evolving role of landscape architecture and her vision for integrated, human-centred design.

The ancient ritual of bathing - on the edge of the wild, stepping into the sea to slow down, soften and be gently humbled.

Great to be back on a glorious sprinters day and to see how our pathway and lakeside deck has settled into the landscape over time.

Introducing @daisy_riches, our guest panellist for the Flourish Melbourne Long Lunch this coming 31st July. ✨

A Senior Associate at DKO and an experienced landscape architect whose work sits at the intersection of design, wayfinding and environmental psychology. Known for an approach that is both pragmatic and poetic, she brings imagination, clarity and a deep belief that places have the power to connect us.

At our Long Lunch, Daisy will be in conversation with @the.artcurator, drawing a card from the Conscious Leadership Wisdom Deck as a starting point. An honest, unscripted conversation about leadership, community, and what it really takes to build something meaningful. After the conversation, the card goes to your table.

We are so looking forward to having her in the room. See you on Friday 31st July. 🌸

Doesn’t look like a pool weekend in Melbourne so here’s a splash of vicarious sunshine! Incredibly detailed pool and fence with lush and layered planting that works with established trees and creates a sanctuary for this lovely family. We often talk about integrated design, and how for us, this means creating meaningful spaces as well as maximising a site. Early integration means a better outcome for the client, the end user and the public.

At Station Square, Junction Place, the architecture and landscape were considered together from the beginning of the design process. This enabled us to integrate in a more considered way — creating a stronger dialogue between building and place, maximising efficiency and creating a generous and memorable arrival experience and urban realm.

Listen as Senior Associate, Daisy Richmond-Smith and Associate, Christine Eid discuss their approach.
