I rarely saw anyone like me in leadership positions during my high school years, nor was I exposed to any role models from a similar background. So being part of this series on leadership and advocacy for Parliament of Victoria has been so fulfilling.
It’s a resource created specifically for high school students who are either in leadership positions, wanting to become leaders or are studying active citizenship. I absolutely love encouraging high school students to be active citizens - not only being part of, but actively creating the very world that affects them.

It’s a 5 part mini series featuring five members of parliament & two young advocates now available on @victorianparliament website alongside classroom questions to help guide the conversations

Psssst - we even got to slide in @australiansouthasiancentre , @brownwomencomedy & Australia’s Stellar South Asian Women initiatives - which have just gone from strength to strength over three years thanks to our community of volunteers, members, donors & supporters 🤎 taken in Parliament of Victoria by @daizymaan

I’ve been looking for something in India… with little luck.

Are woman owned and run Yoga Teacher Trainings (YTT) school / course really THIS impossible to find?

Help me out, drop your recommendations below.

Several people recommended specific schools to me and after doing some research I realised they both had credible sexual abuse allegations (eg Sivananda & Sattva), the more research I did the more I realised there’s so many schools that are low quality & pumping out students.

Some things I’d love to consider:
* ideally Indian women owned and run
* anywhere in India preferably a quiet(ish) area
* reasonable student to teacher ratio (max 25)
* it’s clear who the teachers are and their experience / background is available somewhere to read
* they don’t prioritise or cater only to westerners over locals.

If we get enough recommendations I’ll write an article with a list of women owned YTT since there are so few resources on the internet. So it lives beyond this post & helps others. taken in Laxman Jhula, Rishikesh by @daizymaan

Only 2% of the artists in one of the world’s largest comedy festivals are women of colour*

And that festival happens right here in Australia, Melbourne International Comedy Festival - our country’s largest cultural ticketed event.

Though it’s a global situation, a few years ago a study was released that 99% Edinburgh fringe audiences are white.

So we decided to do something about that and turn our complaining into a solution. Over last 8 weeks we have been running Australia’s first comedy course for women of colour in partnership with @cityofcaseycouncil owned venue @bunjil_place

We worked with the brilliant @annielouey to deliver the training and it’s been so incredible to see these women dedicate themselves to the craft and have so much FUN while they’re at it. From script writing, to clowning to improv the course has covered it all.

So much of the humour draws from lived experience, things that often don’t get spoken about in our community and comedy is a powerful vehicle to make change. That’s why @brownwomencomedy exists.

Come watch 16 women of colour take over the stage and perform on 12 Sep for the very first time.

Link in bio for tickets.

I’ve always wanted to spend longer in the Himalayas, finally getting to do it and I’m feeling nervous (about getting everything organised for @australiansouthasiancentre & @brownwomencomedy @brownwomenpoetry before I leave) and excited to meditate, be outdoors taking in the mountains all day and a deeper longer sadhana. by @daizymaan

One Nation could be running the country which is worrying because they can’t count past one 🤦🏽‍♀️ So Pauline’s party is now first place in the primary vote - One Nation primary support 26%, Aus Labor Party is at 25.5%, and L-NP Coalition is 22% & Greens are at 15.5%. by @daizymaan

When was the last time you saw a list of entrepreneurs in mainstream media that has 75%+ women on it?

I never have.

I’m so over the moon to see this list feature over 75% women. I’m even more stoked that 20 entrepreneurs on this list are members + supporters of @australiansouthasiancentre and several who are former finalists from our Stellar South Asian Women Awards that we ran for 4 years.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes advocating and amplifying women of colour, especially South Asian women who represent such a large % of our community here yet are under-represented.

Having worked in the startup accelerator space for 6 years, there is such an emphasis on celebrating valuations and venture backed “tech” businesses yet so many self funded good businesses get overlooked (many go on to scale significantly, but at a more sustainable pace for the founder). Small businesses make a massive impact, reach thousands of customers and deserve celebration and this list doesn’t overlook them.

A shout out to @himangisinghreports the journalist behind this piece who made it her mission to search for more women and proactively reached out to us contribute. And to our amazing volunteer committee who keep the wheels turning at ASAC Sehar Gupta Rumali Kularatne, Navpreet Kaur & Priyanka Kaur #wocfounders #indianwomen #southasianheritagemonth #melbournebusiness by @daizymaan

* we have 24 hours*

Usually for requests like this I search through our active member database, in this case I wanted to make the list even bigger because let’s be honest these lists are always 70-80 % men!!

Help us change that by always putting forward other women & of course tag your own biz too.

What does it mean to be Australian-Punjabi? What is it like to carry multiple identities?
We asked, and Australian women of Punjabi descent answered.
