Paco Dalmau (b. 1978, Vila-real, Spain) lives and works in Rotterdam.

Dalmau has several series that he is currently working on in the studio. This is due to his approach to making art that relies on layers of time and accumulation in order to produce a layered transparency on the surface of his canvases. As long as a work stays with him, he continues working on it, adding, subtracting, constructing an image as if he were part of a geological process of addition and wear.

At first sight, it is the pigment combination that stands out. Pinks, yellows, and blues circulate on the surface along with white spray paint and acrylic incursions. These are pigments that are thoroughly worked into resins and adhesive mediums. Dalmau says that all of the materials in his studio are used for things other than their intended purpose as he conducts ongoing experiments with materials. After adding layers of pigmented resins, he tears away at them using industrial-grade sanding tools that leave only traces of the layer and reveal the colours underneath. It is through a progressive daily offering and intense energetic output that the result yields an abstract imaginary. The works end up looking like they could be either a petri dish or a buffed quartz or marble, pointing to the combination of organic, geological, and more-than-human processes with artificial material.

Currently, Dalmau is moving from the flat surface to more sculptural terrain and experiments in scale and form are visible in the studio. Here, he uses off-cuts and remnants that fall away from the process as a starting point, building forms that accrete like stalactites, gathering eons of particulate excess. taken in Rotterdam, Netherlands by @dalmau_visual_art

Paco Dalmau (Vila-real, España, 1978) es un artista visual que vive y trabaja en Róterdam desde 2012. Su práctica se desarrolla desde una investigación sobre la identidad, la memoria y la percepción, entendidas no como conceptos fijos, sino como procesos en movimiento. En su obra, la imagen no aparece como una respuesta cerrada, sino como
un territorio donde distintas capas de experiencia, tiempo y transformación conviven sin resolverse del todo.
