Your next media hire will shape your church for years. Hire a leader, not just a technician.

Swipe for what to look for, and what not to. Full article at the link in bio.

A few quick shots of the iPhone Duo case before the phone arrives on Friday. It’s much smaller than I expected!

I have to say, it feels great in the hand and is much easier to hold than my iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I included a few comparison shots alongside my iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPad mini to give you a better idea of the size. by @danthetvman

The question a media candidate asks tells you a lot.

A technician waits to be told what to do. A producer wants to know the goal before touching a camera.

If your church is hiring a media leader, this is one of the first things I’d look for.

I talk more about it on the new episode of The Producer’s Seat 🎧 Link in bio.

Really nice surprise on my @americanair flight tonight. My flight attendant, Adriane, wrote me a personal thank-you card and brought it to me.

After more than a million miles of flying, I’ve never had a flight attendant do that before. It really meant a lot. Thank you! by @danthetvman

Got pretty close to Cuba while dodging storms on the way into Miami.

But the views over the water made for a pretty incredible arrival. by @danthetvman

I picked up my first camera at 15 years old. Today at 1pm at CFX 2026 I’m sharing what 37 years in this industry taught me about the one shift that changes everything.

It’s called Think Like a Producer and it’s the most personal talk I’ve ever given. About the moment I stopped thinking like a technician and started thinking like a producer. And how that one shift took me from camera op to Hollywood and most recently to producing 20 episodes of a new series for Paramount for showrunner Taylor Sheridan.

If you’re at CFX meet me at 1pm. I’d love to see you there.

“What books would you recommend to someone wanting to exit ministry and start their own production company?”

Great question — and here’s the truth: when Dan Wathan started his company, he wasn’t even pulling resources from people in his own industry. He looked at completely different fields and pulled the skills that transferred. Sales. Positioning. Business fundamentals.

One book that completely reshaped his thinking: anything by Blair Enns.

Blair Enns helped Dan shift from thinking like a vendor to thinking like an expert.

That distinction changed everything for him. After years of working with all kinds of people and organizations, Dan finally had to accept something: he is an expert. Even when he didn’t fully believe it himself.

📚 If you’re making that jump — from ministry to running your own thing — don’t just look inside your industry. Look at how experts in any field position themselves. That mindset shift alone is worth more than any camera or gear upgrade.

New episode is officially out — and this one’s for every church media person out there!

I sat down with my friend Dan Wathen, and if you’re an editor, videographer, or someone wearing 10 different hats on your team... this episode is for you.

We dig into a mindset shift that changes everything: thinking like a producer, not just a technician.

Being the technician is great — it’s what gets you in the door. But when you start thinking like a producer? That’s when new opportunities open up. That’s when your career actually starts to grow.

🎧 The episode is live now on all podcast platforms and YouTube. Link in bio — go check it out!
