Dastgâmachine will perform with Stan Brakhage’s film Persian Series 1-3.
They embrace a legible and unique form of psychedelia, incorporating the sounds and production techniques of dub, techno, and musique concrete into the Dastgâ system of arranging classical Persian art music.

Dastgâmachine (Mahmood Schricker, Caleb Klager, and Jason Rule) embrace a legible and unique form of psychedelia, incorporating the sounds and production techniques of dub, techno, and musique concrete into the Dastgâ system of arranging classical Persian art music.
The three come from disparate scenes and sound worlds: Mahmood (on electric setar) from a traditional composition background, with years of performance and soundtrack experience; Caleb (on electronics) having gone from studying jazz composition to creating full throttle techno alongside performing in jazz ensembles and live at MUTEK; and Jason (on turntables) having experience with computer music ensembles and over 15 years of radio and club DJing under their belt in multiple countries.

🌱 WAVELENGTH MUSIC FESTIVAL + CONFERENCE: NIGHT ONE - co-presented with @linkmusiclab ’s Experimental Link Series 🌱

This gathering was very special to host, and we feel grateful the Persian community for choosing to spend their Nowruz with us.

@dastgamachine + @cinnapeyghamy + @passedoutonapersianrug blew our minds with their experimental sounds and vibrant textures! Plus @farbod_maeen ’s projection art immersed us in another world.

As the people of Iran continue fighting for freedom, we are centering Iranian artists and their contributions to Toronto’s music scene. This year’s Nowruz does not feel celebratory for many of us, and we don’t claim to have clear answers about how to move forward.

What we do know is that remaining silent does not feel right. Some of us need a space to come together. To hold one another, grieve, resist, and heal. Through this gathering, we aim to amplify Iranian voices and create that space with care. Coinciding with the Spring Equinox, this night sits between renewal, remembrance, and gathering.

Our Nowruz lineup showcases Toronto’s vibrant Persian leftfield electronic music scene, alongside visiting artists from Detroit and Paris.
