Fat tyres look good, don’t they?!

I swapped the chunky mountain bike treads for the new 50mm WTB Byway semi-slicks to see if I could turn my gravel bike into something faster on the road — without losing the off-road fun.

They certainly felt faster… but when I put them against the clock, the results were pretty surprising

How wide is too wide?

For my latest video, I fitted 50mm semi-slick tyres to a gravel bike to see if I could give it more road-bike speed, handling and feel — without completely ruining what makes a gravel bike so capable.

They certainly feel fast.

But are they actually faster?

There was only one way to find out… so I did some back-to-back timed power testing as well.
