❤️ RESTART A HEART DAY ❤️

Today marks Restart a Heart Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of knowing how to save a life.

Organisations such as the British Heart Foundation work to educate people about hands only CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator. These are skills that could genuinely be the difference between life and death.

For me, this day means so much more than simply raising awareness. ❤️

At just 16 years old, I was diagnosed with a heart condition. I know first hand how frightening it can be to face something like this at such a young age, and how overwhelming it can feel when you’re trying to understand what it means for your health and your future.

Over the years, I’ve had comments from people saying, ‘But you’re too young to have a heart condition.’

The reality is that heart conditions don’t discriminate by age. They don’t just affect older people, and being young, looking healthy or feeling fine doesn’t necessarily mean everything is okay.

My own journey with heart health hasn’t always been straightforward. Thankfully, my condition has been monitored throughout my life, which has given me reassurance and the opportunity to understand my heart health better.

Unfortunately, things took a turn last year, and in January I was diagnosed with valve regurgitation, which means one of my heart valves doesn’t close properly, allowing some blood to leak backwards. Since then, I’ve been monitored through regular echocardiograms to keep an eye on my heart.

There are organisations such as Cardiac Risk in the Young, which offers information about heart conditions in young people and provides screening services for certain age groups.

Please don’t ignore symptoms or put off seeking medical advice because you think you’re too young to have a heart problem.

You are never too young to take your heart health seriously. ❤️ by @db.personaltraining

With my first Pro race of the season coming up in London this December, it’s time to show those sleds some love! 🛷💪

After racing the sleds in Rome and seeing my Open time match my Pro time 😅, it’s clear where some extra work needs to go!

Over the last few months, I’ve really focused on improving my running and conditioning, and I’m super happy with the progress I’ve made. Now, it’s time to shift some focus back to my strength and get those sleds moving! 🔥

I’m determined to set a new Pro PB in London this December, and I’m ready to put in the work to make it happen!

Bring it on! 👊🇬🇧 taken in Locker - Athletic Development by @db.personaltraining

Run for the dreams they said were too big.
Run for the girl you used to be, and the woman you’re becoming.
Run through the doubt, the fear, the setbacks, and every voice that tells you to slow down. 🏃‍♀️✨

Run with purpose. Run with courage. Run like you have something to prove not to them, but to yourself.

And when they tell you to run like a girl…
run like a girl who knows exactly how powerful she is. 💪🔥 taken in St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club by @db.personaltraining

September has been a crazy month physically & emotionally. Sometimes life is just a little bit nuts!

We never really know how each day is going to play out.
One thing I’ve been trying to do more of lately is switch off.

Training has always been my way of doing that. Throwing a heavy barbell around, pushing through a killer WOD, and just focusing on what’s in front of me has always been a great escape.

But since joining the @shestridesrunclub this summer, I’ve found myself really enjoying running again. And I think a big part of that is running with other people. It’s just so much more fun when you’re surrounded by a group of amazing women. 💕

Running solo used to feel like such a chore. It was something I had to do for race and competition training rather than something I actually enjoyed.

Living with a heart condition can sometimes make me feel like a ticking time bomb. Some days it’s constantly in the back of my mind, and other days I barely think about it.

Having running and this brilliant group of women as my way to switch off has been so good for me mentally. It’s reminded me that training doesn’t always have to be about performance, numbers or the next goal. Sometimes, it can simply be about doing something that makes you feel good.

So, find your ‘switch off’. Whatever that looks like for you.

Because looking after your body is important, but your body isn’t going to feel its best if your mind isn’t in a good place too. ❤️ by @db.personaltraining
