Your lead foot might be killing your rotation.

Try this simple furniture slider drill.

The goal: post into the lead side without spinning out.

As you shift forward, feel your lead knee and hip internally rotate together while maintaining a stable base.

Shift → Post → Rotate

You’re not just getting onto the lead side.

You’re learning to use it.

Change the movement before you change the swing.

Save this drill and try it. ⛳️ #golfcoach #golftips #golflife #golfswing #golfpractice by @dbarnesgolf

Losing your posture in the backswing? 👀 Your hips might be the problem.

If your trail hip can’t rotate effectively, your body may compensate by pushing your pelvis toward the ball and standing up out of your posture.

Instead of forcing yourself to “stay down,” work on the movement that allows you to rotate without losing your setup.

🎯 Better movement. Better positions. Better golf.

Your golf swing already knows how to move. You’ve just never thrown it. ⚾⛳

When you throw a ball hard, you never think about it. Your body just does it:

1️⃣ Load into your trail side
2️⃣ Shift into your lead side
3️⃣ Rotate and finish on your lead leg

That’s the same sequence you want in your golf swing. Most players lose it the second they hold a club and start “trying to hit” the ball.

Try this next time you practice: make 3 hard throws (real or pretend), then hit 3 balls trying to copy that same feeling. Load, shift, rotate. Same move, different tool.

Stop trying to pull your hands through to get shaft lean. 🛑

Shaft lean isn’t something you create with your hands. It’s what happens when your weight gets into your lead side before impact.

When you try to force your hands ahead:
❌ The clubface opens up
❌ Your body stalls and you flip or shank it
❌ Contact gets inconsistent

When you shift pressure into your lead side first:
✅ Your low point moves forward
✅ Your hands end up ahead of the ball on their own
✅ You hit the ball first, then the turf

Get your weight moving, and the shaft lean will follow.

Sliding through impact is one of the most common faults I see, and it’s sneaky because it feels like a weight shift.

The problem isn’t shifting. It’s shifting without turning. When your hips drift toward the target and stop rotating, your low point moves, your hands flip, and you lose speed and good contact.

The fix:
1️⃣ Get pressure into your lead foot early in the downswing

2️⃣ Then rotate on top of it, so your lead hip turns back instead of sliding out

A pressure board makes it easy to feel. Your weight moves forward, but your body turns over the front foot instead of drifting past it.
Shift. Then turn. 🔄

“turn your shoulders more” 🚫

When your upper body leans toward the target at the top of your swing (a reverse spine angle), more turn usually isn’t the answer.

Here’s what’s often going on:
1️⃣ Your rib cage doesn’t have enough room or control to rotate
2️⃣ So your body borrows from your lower back, your arms or a reverse pivot
3️⃣ And you end up stuck in the very position you’re trying to fix.

Train the rib cage first. Then the swing follows.

The fix is to start from the ground up:
👣 Weight shifts to the inside of your left foot
🔄 Left hip rotates
➡️ Chest follows, then arms, then club

Half-Swing Push Drill
1️⃣ Start slow from your setup
2️⃣ Come up halfway
3️⃣ Feel the weight shift to your inside left foot
4️⃣ Rotate your left hip and PUSH the ball toward the target

Stop trying to create lag. Create proper motion, and lag happens on its own.

Early extension often comes from a lack of lead hip internal rotation. When your pelvis can’t rotate into that hip on the downswing, your body finds another way through: your hips thrust toward the ball and you lose your posture.

🔹 The test: Sit on a bench with your knees at 90°. Swing your lead foot out to the side. That’s internal rotation.
🔹 The red flag: If you can’t get past 25–30°, your hip is likely the limiter.
🔹 The fix: Work on the movement first. Get more internal rotation in that lead hip, and your body can rotate through properly instead of standing up.

You can grind swing drills all day, but if your body can’t make the move, the fault comes back. 🔁

Your posture isn’t the problem. Your trail hip is. 👇

If the trail hip doesn’t internally rotate, your pelvis can’t turn, so you stand up to make room. That’s where thin and blocked shots come from.

Turn into the trail hip and keep your butt on the line. 💾 Save this for the range.

You don’t need a better driver, more lesson or lift more. You need better movement. #golftips #golf #golfswing #golfcoach #movement by @dbarnesgolf

Stand up through impact? Low back sore after a round? 👇

It’s usually not your swing. It’s your pelvis.

When you can’t tuck your hips in golf posture, your body has to find room another way. That’s early extension: hips push toward the ball, your spine stands up, and your low back takes the load.

Try the test:
1️⃣ Get in golf posture
2️⃣ Tuck your hips under, then tip them forward
3️⃣ Don’t let your chest move

Can’t do it? Start with the wall drill: butt on the pad, tuck and untuck, then slow reps keeping that tuck as you turn.

Save this for your next range session and send it to the buddy who’s always grabbing his back on the 14th hole.
