I enjoyed the opening last night of the Summer Show of the @royal_sculptors, There’s No Place Like IT, thank you to guest curator @henryholland. The opening also celebrated the re-opening of Dora House, the home of The Royal society of Sculptors. This year’s exhibition explores the idea of the home, through sculpture. Congratulations too @michaelcoombssculptor winning “Best in Show”. First image, with my work, images of some of the works in the show, including @michaelcoombssculptor My work Ceiling Rose – Detail, transforms a familiar domestic ornament into something unsettling and politically charged. Its intricate radial symmetry seduces before revealing cast objects associated with the transatlantic slave trade. By appropriating the language of decorative plasterwork, the work exposes histories of exploitation and violence embedded within architecture and material culture. #sculptureexhibition #sculpture #fineart #modernart by @decourcysally
Aerial view courtesy of @steverussellstudios of Ceiling Rose currently exhibiting @freshairsculpture . It is a privilege to be exhibiting in their final show. It runs from 12th June to 5th July at the old rectory Quennington . I will be there on 23rd June and 5th July . Ceiling Rose appropriates the aesthetic language of decorative plasterwork while embedding within it cast metaphorical and representative objects associated with the transatlantic slave trade to confront the viewer with hidden histories embedded within British architecture. Many British historical houses have ties to a transatlantic slave trade.#sculpture #sculptureexhibition #modernart #blacklivesmatter @royal_sculptors by @decourcysally
Private view of Freshair Sculpture , Quennington, Gloucestershire . Delighted to be printed on the front of their catalogue. It was a fantastic event so many interesting and stunning works . Tickets are now available online the exhibition is on until 26th June. I am exhibiting 3 works The Colour of Mourning, Embracing Curves and United and Together . The post shows a image of The Colour of Mourning which is an installation about the current refugee crisis crossing the English Channel . Nearly 8000 have attempted the hazardous crossing this year. #fineart #modernart #artistsoninstagram #emergingartists #contemporaryart #abstractart #sculpture #sculptureart #modernsculpture #sculptureartist#blacklivesmatter by @decourcysally

Many thanks to @royal_sculptors for generously sharing them. Queen Anne Ceiling Rose, Detail uses the seductive beauty of traditional architectural ornament to expose how the wealth generated through the transatlantic slave trade directly or indirectly funded many of Britain’s historic houses, revealing the exploitation concealed beneath their grandeur and refinement. #sculptureexhibition #sculpture #contemporaryart #exhibition @Royal_sculptors by @decourcysally

Taste for Ornament uses the seductive beauty of Georgian domestic objects associated with sugar to expose the colonial wealth, exploitation and suffering concealed beneath Britain’s traditions of refinement and hospitality. #exhibition #sculptureart #sculpture @royal_sculptors by @decourcysally
The @assembly_rss_exhibition is showing until the 15thNovember, it brings together different sculptural practices. I am exhibiting two works that explore how Britain’s colonial history is embedded within the beauty and refinement of its decorative heritage. The Weight of Ornament uses the seductive beauty of architectural ornament to reveal the hidden weight of colonial wealth, exploitation and lives rendered invisible. Taste of Ornament draws on the familiar rituals of taking tea, arranging sugar tongs, pineapple-embossed spoons, and sugar bowls to confront our taste for sugar and the human suffering that sustained it. Together, the works challenge the uneasy relationship between beauty, privilege, and exploitation. The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of free artist-led conversations, tours, performances, workshops, and other encounters, exploring some of the ideas, processes and materials that underpin their practices. I will explaining my sculptural processes on 6th November. Visit the link in bio @assembly_rss_exhibition to book free event tickets. It is not too late to book your free ticket for the panel talk @hyphastudios Gallery 3 Southbank. Tomorrow evening 6-8pm. This time @assembly_rss_exhibition artists are delighted to welcome @beyer.ba as guest chair of the panel. Beyer’s sculptures and installations, drawings and prints visibly contain traces of process and making, subtly telling the story how they came into being. They remind of our potential to be creative and destructive, to break and make whole, to separate and to reconcile. Barbara will be joined by @studioalexandracarr @almuthtebbenhoff @gillianbrent and myself. Image 1 panel talk at assembly Sunderland at the @abjectgallery Sunderland.
