The
@assembly_rss_exhibition is showing until the 15thNovember, it brings together different sculptural practices.
I am exhibiting two works that explore how Britain’s colonial history is embedded within the beauty and refinement of its decorative heritage. The Weight of Ornament uses the seductive beauty of architectural ornament to reveal the hidden weight of colonial wealth, exploitation and lives rendered invisible. Taste of Ornament draws on the familiar rituals of taking tea, arranging sugar tongs, pineapple-embossed spoons, and sugar bowls to confront our taste for sugar and the human suffering that sustained it. Together, the works challenge the uneasy relationship between beauty, privilege, and exploitation.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of free artist-led conversations, tours, performances, workshops, and other encounters, exploring some of the ideas, processes and materials that underpin their practices. I will explaining my sculptural processes on 6th November. Visit the link in bio @assembly_rss_exhibition to book free event tickets.
