Nearly a decade since I’ve made self portraiture as this. Out of all my travels and keeping up with my things, I cannot find this little book to save my life. I am so grateful it is at least documented but man flippin this little guy open would crack me up instantly. To see a progression of myself pre-Everything Everywhere All at Once kept me grounded in many ways.

I found @tinashenow music in the thick of summer 2014 a week before my study abroad program in Barcelona. Downloading three of her mixtapes onto my iPod classic before my flight was the best decision I could’ve made. I’ve championed for her success since and had the privilege of seeing her live happenstance at Nashville Pride at the height of her Nasty hit.

Popstar has landed with such vigor and great taste that fuels all aspects of what makes me inspired to engage with the world-building of the album, to contrast, exxaggerate, expand and explore in my own way.

I replayed those mixtapes for about the past two months gearing up for this new body of work from her, and I hear how connected she is to those times. It’s a form of time travel to me. So happy and proud to be in a world with Tinashe! #popstar #HollywoodDreamsSignedVinylOwner by @depaulvera

Happy Pride 🌈

Tom of Finland didn’t just draw bodies.
He drew Queer people as they deserved to be seen: confident, desired, joyful, and human. Leather wasn’t costume in his work, it was identity, freedom, fantasy, brotherhood, and pride made visible.

Through the work of Tom of Finland Foundation, that legacy continues to be preserved, protected, and shared with new generations of artists, leathermen, and Queer communities around the world.

Pride is freedom to live openly, express desire without shame, build chosen family, and celebrate the cultures and communities that made Queer life visible in the first place.

This time last year as I was about to lay it down for an afternoon nap, while scrolling twitter, I stumble across an Aaliyah fanpage poking fun at me! My heart sunk; how in the world did someone scour the internet for this album cover remake I made five years ago, now six, during the blight of 2020? And how the hell is this popping up on my phone in the middle of podunk nowhere with only one bar of cell service?? I was belligerent and felt ridiculed beyond belief until I started taking in the context of the post, which was highlighting others who also recreated their favorite album covers, albeit mockingly.

No other app makes me laugh as hard as twitter, even while being on the receiving end of the joke, I was still laughing with them and sent my friends the link. Waves of gratitude began to change my frame of mind as I made my way through more replies the next day at others expressing their laughter; this cradled the subtle thought that maybe this would make Aaliyah laugh too? Seeing this at 1:43 let me know exactly that. #aaliyah #CelebrateEverything #fypage by @depaulvera

Recent readings and collages. Slowly unboxing memories and creating new ones. I’m still reeling in from seeing Chicago earlier this month, thank you my friend for making time and accommodations for me. #ChicagoTheMusical + #HairyButtEnergy by @depaulvera

This Year of the Horse I exemplify myself atop the mantel of growth and nourishment as I prepare for what may be my last cross country Uhaul. I am so thankful to be the man I am returning to my Kentucky roots with all my belongings very soon. Here’s to safe travels and a stronger back. #FireHorse2026 by @depaulvera
