On Saturday, I was blessed to have been able to kick off the 4th Annual Black History Month Leadership Brunch. Big shout out to @obfc.az for putting this event together!! 💪🏾✊🏾In a time when celebrating Black History is “controversial”, this wasn’t just about celebrating a proud and rich history, but it was about edifying our youth. So often, the stories, reports, and images of Black youth specifically, and Black people in general is not favorable, positive, or life-affirming. It usually casts us in a light that is not indicative of the true excellence and greatness we most often exude. And even when we are cast in a positive light, many will do their best to knit pick, tear down, or dim the light so to minimize our achievements. It is imperative that our youth know the true history of their ancestors, so that they can believe in the limitless possibilities for their future. There should never be a cap on one’s potential. If you want our youth to flourish, share with them the real stories their ancestors; not just in February, but everyday!! #celebrateblackhistory #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #black #blackhistory365 #obfc #tgs #blackexcellence #leadership #teamesco #mentorship #mentor #youthmentoring #thefuture #uhuru #sasa by @desco25

LANDOWNERS, YOU KNOW IT’S NEVER JUST ABOUT BUYING THE LAND… IT’S ABOUT WHAT YOU DO WITH IT.

Nobody talks enough about the work that comes AFTER you get the land.

Clearing brush. Running a chainsaw. Surveying your property. Figuring things out as you go. Getting your hands dirty because the vision won't build itself.

At The Growth Spot, we're putting in the work on our 37.5 acres in Arizona one project at a time.

🌱 OWN THE LAND. LEARN THE LAND. BUILD SOMETHING THAT LASTS.

👇🏾 LANDOWNERS: What’s the most challenging job you’ve had to tackle on your own property?

📲 Know somebody putting in work on their own land? SHARE this with them.

Follow and subscribe to The Growth Spot for real land development, hands-on projects, stewardship, and the lessons we're learning along the way.

I used to say: “You can drop me anywhere in the world, and I’ll make it”, until me and my Brotha’s bought 37.5 acres of unadulterated land in N. St. John’s, AZ… then I realized wrong I was. Ashamedly, I felt like a slave, because everything I knew about survival hinged on something that someone else made, grew, or created. Since then, I’ve embarked on a journey with my family, my Brother’s, and my community to leave how to farm, raise chickens, and build. And you know what, there is no better feeling. True liberation. If you want to get free, buy land, develop the land, build in the land, and say 🖕🏾 the system!! UHURU SASA!!!! #freedom #landownership #TheGrowthSpot #welivehere by @desco25

About last night… ❤️🖤💚 Never have I been apart of something so special and amazing. We go through life having supernatural experiences and moments, but what makes them so is the people you share them with. I am so honored and humbled to have been apart of the first annual Afrofuturism L.E.G.A.C.Y Fundraising Social! It took months of planning, meeting, connecting and networking to pull it off. In the end, the community showed up and showed OUT! And we looked dam good doing it too 🎯

To have real Pillars of the community come through and support the mission was unforgettable. It was an official stamp on us as an organization, and validation that we are moving with true purpose. The best part for me was watching my son move people to tears (me 🥹) with his speech. Thank you to the volunteers, sponsors, hosts, attendees, those who support from afar, and all my Brothers of The Growth Spot!!! I love you all!! What we are doing is special. How we put on for the city is second to none. And where we are going… you want to be a part of it, because it is a true Family Affair!! UHURU SASA 💪🏾💪🏾✊🏾✊🏾 by @desco25

WHAT ARE YOU INVESTING IN?

IF YOU HAD $100 TO INVEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY, WHERE WOULD YOU PUT IT?

That's the conversation.

Because community doesn't grow from good intentions alone.

It grows when people invest.

The Growth Spot Foundation is raising resources for youth transportation during our L.E.G.A.C.Y. Camps, Valley workshops, land stewardship and continued community support.

And we're inviting businesses, philanthropists, entrepreneurs and everyday supporters into the work.

🚨 LIMITED TIME: Your event ticket includes 1 FREE raffle entry.

Sponsored by Titos Handmade Vodka @titosvodka & Uncle Nearest @unclenearest , each ticket comes with specially curated cocktails, food, entertainment, live art, culture, and so much more! This is your chance to network with community leaders looking to play a part in the development of our future. As the bridge between our elders and the youth, our responsibility is to equip the next generation with the tools, resources, and intentionality necessary to take the torch and run with it! Come out and support! And if you can’t be in attendance, you can still support with your time, resources, and your dollars. Support the cause, support the community. Your voice and your efforts matter!! It’s going to take all of us to win!!
