Celebrating an imposed political annexation to the oppressor is a slap in the face of the ancestors, and present day land and culture defenders🌿🏝✊🏾

🗓June 23rd, 1822. The Already contested territory that is my Caribbean homeland, was annexed to present day Colombia 🇨🇴 , after the United States 🇺🇸 lost political interest in its strategic location. ( and went after Panama)

Yesterday, many Raizal alongside many Colombians, which claim our ancestral territory as “their land” celebrated the 200 year birthday of Old Providence, St. Andres and St. Katleena.

✊🏾 A day of remembrance, and opportunity for reflection and fueling the reclaiming of ourselves and our heritage, Tied to the land and it’s bounty, it’s refuge and the freedom it provided in the early days of what we are now known as “ The Raizal Nation”

On dates like these, I feel those original raizal ancestors once removed from Afrika sold into slavery and brought to the Caribbean, becoming now twice removed, declared to be from a new Nation yet again, further from ourselves in thought and spirit.

Decolonizing is constant work, historical dates from the colonizer offer a pointed moment in history to inquire on who we were before them, what was gained by them was lost by us. It is our joyful duty to recall, recognize, reclaim the full expression of the liberated self.

Reading @rufino.luiz7 book #vencedemanda , is the kind of ❤️‍🔥 pedagogy that guides to deep thought and simultaneously to spring into action🌿✊🏾.

I am in awe of this 76 pages of distilled wisdom and condensed inspiration.

The book is only in #portugues at the moment so I truly hope these short quotes get as far and wide to Spanish & English speakers across the #Diaspora, specially dedicated to my #Raizal people of San Andres, Old Providence & St. Ketleena in the western Caribbean, through out the celebration of our emancipation week.

🌿🙏🏽 gratidão plantas mágicas sempre me mostrando o caminho certo, gratidão pela sabedoria das plantas, comunicando e fazendo suas palavras falarem claramente através de pessoas como @rufino.luiz7

*Naming is Reclaiming* in this process for recognizing and honoring the purpose of the journey.
A metaphor of fungi spores and the diaSporic experience spread from Africa to the rest of the world.

Diasporic thread is made of plant fibers, cotton & fungi filaments, strings of though threaded through the eye of the needle that serve to inspire, and sometimes make it onto cloth to support my journey and directly uplift cultural and emergency efforts in my Raizal community.

Here to connect, re-wild, and uncover the essence of my African ancestry before indoctrination.

————-
Diasporic Apparel was the original name because my research for online SEO dictated that “Brands must be clear and descriptive ”; however, this name only partially reflected the essence of the personal journey I wish I share with the world:

To weave the threads of passed down ancestral memories, and the gift of entheogens as medicine for tapping into inner places otherwise lost in history due to colonization of my ancestors.

✊🏾My decolonization/ liberation journey is in essence about uncovering and recognizing common threads 🧵 of thought, culture, and textile among myself as a Raizal, and the African diaspora experience at large.

🧶To weave my own unique lived experience and orient towards exchange with others in the journey, through honoring & witnessing the richness and diversity of Diasporic manifestations in people and places.

🍄 This journey is inquiry-based, lead by culture, travel and experiences with long-standing traditions. Where oral tradition fails due to the colonization of minds and loss of knowledge, I trust the guidance of plant medicine filaments to recover and bring forth the ancestral memory as a present to be cherished in this time.

The incredible joy of being black in the blackest biggest most extravagant popular party on the planet is hard to describe.

In your face, joyful resistance is the most badass show of power without force.

Grateful to Rio Carnaval samba schools for the gift of being able to see my face, my eyes, my nose, my hair, on some of the most badass humans that have existed across the Americas and persevered for our collective liberation.

I’m proud and honored to be working in the world to serve as living legacy of my badass ancestors

✊🏾♥️
