Não me peça pra calar minha verdade
Pois a nossa liberdade não depende de papel
Em Santo Amaro, todo 13 de maio
Nossa ancestralidade é festejada à luz do céu, ê-ê

First 3 weeks of Miamibloco season are giving back so much love already: closer friendships, tighter sounds, impecable Saideiras.

So grateful for all we humans create when we put our commitment behind the work, not the hype.

Somos Miami, Bro!

I hope we all get to have more good memories and moments to be grateful for.

[Thank you Tia Liz for this pic I sent my grandma Pearl Howard , and it’s still somewhere in our Raizal Territory]

💔🇧🇷✊🏾 This is my heart, this is my joy, this is my fight. Their pain is my pain, Because No one is safe until we are all safe, no one is free until we are all free. Rio de Janeiro is suffering. The “war on drugs” has never helped, bringing tragedy to the people, and money for the pockets of the politicians.

Favela resistance, favela is joy, favela is the most vivid example of collective resilience I know.

So much to learn ♥️. This is a sad and dark time, but one thing they continuously teach the world is that they get up and build, and always stand proud. Their existence is a gift in itself, and the culture the favelas have given the world is insurmountable.

A just cause is collective. It’s a way of living every single breath. It’s how to be truly human

@dj_kumi brings his afrocaribbean heritage to The annual Saideira Social in an exquisitely new, yet familiar way. here is what keeps him coming back to be part of this homegrown Miami celebration:

“ For me it’s the creation of something new and extremely inclusive, a beautiful merging of identity and expression all in one delicious pot of cultural and musical gumbo. You’ve served as an incredible conduit in Miami by bringing many different people together through the empowerment of multiple discourses, which further confirms a concept that I’ve always shared and felt..composition can be one community, hybridity, and joy. Our core values music, family, community are soulfully aligned. This is why I come back every year.”

We are grateful for the work KUMI does as a selector, curator and vibe griot, all over town and blessed to welcome him once again to the Saideira Social, celebrating our fifth edition!

First Roda de Pandeiro in years… 👁️🫶🏽👁️Today we realized a dream that’s been in the making since 2020, and it was truly beautiful.

Thank you for showing up, and jumping on the opportunity to get together and have a #pandeiroPicnic on a breezy sunny day, bringing this beautiful culture to life with our very own Dr. Pandeiro @ubirajarapotts at @koubekcentermdc EnResidencia.

More to come from Miamibloco x the Picnic Society✨

What if the wound is the way to Freedom?
Only Black hurt could ever become this joyful resistance. 👁️✊🏾👁️

Sou a voz do gueto, dona das multidões
Matriarca das paixões, Mangueira
O povo banto que floresce nas vielas
Orgulho de ser favela

Sou Luanda e Benguela
A dor que se rebela, morte e vida no oceano
Resistência quilombola
Dos pretos novos de Angola
De Cabinda, suburbano
Tronco forte em ribanceira
Flor da terra de Mangueira
Revel do Santo Cristo que condena
Mistério das calungas ancestrais
Que o tempo revelou no cais
E fez do Rio minha África pequena

💓💚💓 Grateful for the lessons of Samba

When PAGODE DE MESA plays, we bring the Quilombo energy Alive in Miami’s Little Haiti.

🇧🇷 in 🌴 🦩

Miamibloco PAGODE DE MESA is an unforgettable party celebrating joy and cultural resistance.

Here you Dance, sing your heart out, and clap your best palma da mão with us to Awaken the cultural roots that prevail in all Afroculturas from Brazil and all our beautiful Caribbean!

Join the newsletter in our bio to get details on the next one

This clip is from the first day that @bateriasaideira arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 2024 to study and live the culture we love.

The Roda de Samba at Quilombo do Grotão embodies the purest form of community-building in Rio, rooted in tradition and resilience, serving as a living symbol of Afro-Brazilian heritage. Similarly, Miamibloco’s Pagode de Mesa and Roots of Samba events honor this communal spirit while infusing it with Miami’s unique multicultural flair. Featuring intergenerational participation and special guests from diverse backgrounds, Miamibloco bridges traditional samba with the rich cultural tapestry of Miami, fostering cross-cultural connection and a unified community spirit in the 305.
