The share of firms using AI in EU strategic sectors grew from 7% in 2021 to 18% in 2025.

We just published a new analysis on AI uptake and barriers to use in the strategic sectors, covered by the Apply AI strategy.

Our main findings:

- The sectors with the highest AI use are media, energy and electronic, while mobility, tourism and agri-food lag behind.

- The growth of AI use is mainly driven by LLMs as they have become cheaper and more accessible.

- Capital-intensive industries, requiring sophisticated computing infrastructure, have higher AI uptake than labour-intensive sectors, based on people and skills. by @digitaleu

Our digital lives are an important part of our mental wellbeing. It's time to face the impact:

▪️89% of young Europeans use social media daily
▪️Heavy social media use is associated with a ~60% higher risk of depression among young people
▪️Passive and intensive social media use is linked to increased loneliness

The evidence is clear. So is our responsibility. The Digital Services Act (DSA) is helping make digital platforms safer by design:

🔸Easy flagging of illegal content
🔸Enhanced protection for minors
🔸Ban on dark patterns and addictive features

42.3% of EU internet users have encountered hostile or degrading messages online.

Much of this hostility targeted people based on their political views, ethnicity, or identity.

What we see online can affect our mental well-being. That's why the EU is working to make digital spaces safer for everyone through the Digital Service Act (DSA), which:

✅ Makes it easier to report illegal content.
✅ Requires the largest online platforms to address risks to mental well-being.
✅ Strengthens protections for children and teenagers against online risks.

First impressions count. Especially with AI.

The EU rules on AI transparency are making it easier to know when AI is involved. If you’re interacting with an AI agent, the system must let you know. If it’s a deepfake, it must carry a detectable mark.

The goal? Helping you make informed choices, know when to trust AI, and spot potential misinformation or deception.
