Instead of shopping on #BlackFriday sales, slow down and shop reasonably because buying clothes need consideration. Whenever you can, open your closet first as it is your most sustainable clothing resource. You might find something you haven’t worn for a long time. Whenever you can, wear more, buy less. If you could, sewing your own clothes.

You’re seeing this trousers again because they’re too beautiful not to wear often. This Panel trousers is designed by @mila.moisio for @taukomagazine issue no. 3. I sewed it in size 1, but modified the wide. Originally, it required 140 cm fabric width, while the batik fabric I used was only 100 cm width. With smaller width fabric, I had to redraft the pattern and eliminate one of the four pleats on each side. Then I reduced the other pleats size in half. In the end, the adjustment doesn’t change the fact that it’s a gorgeous trousers❤️

Then I found this Indonesian hand-sewn vintage traditional clothing (kutubaru kebaya) in my sister’s closet😃 A perfect match for the trousers!😍

Not to mention the waist sash (called angkin/stagen); it is wrapped around the stomach beneath the kebaya and only visible on the front side. It is usually a long Javanese tie dye (jumputan), batik or simply plain cloth. But for my outfit, I just use a small size of voile scarf (it was also found in my sister’s closet🤫). Traditionally, angkin/stagen is used to secured the lower garment that is a long piece of cloth wrapped around the waist, e.g. sarong or traditional cloth (jarik). But this trousers are secured enough to wear that it needs sash only to give a traditional touch in a modern look.

It’s been quite a while since I wore kebaya☺️ The last slide tells you when it was. It’s another type of kebaya, called Kartini kebaya, names after one of Indonesian female heroes, Raden Ajeng Kartini, who advocated for women’s right and female education back in early 1900s.

Open your closet and you might find stories behind your clothes.

I quit my 15 years 9 to 5 corporate job 5.5 years ago to take the be-my-own-boss path. It wasn’t an easy decision, especially because I enjoyed the job, it paid me well and had a promising career ladder. Just a perfect one. I was also afraid I would fail being my own boss. But if I didn’t take it, I would never know how will it be. If I chose the comfort zone, I might regret myself for not trying. I’d rather fail than regret for not taking the risk. If I failed, I could learn something from it. After a very long consideration, I confidently took the path.

I let myself move in a slow pace, just to enjoy everything I do along the way. This year, I’m grateful for having some of my Kimono jackets sold to 5 different countries✨Their nice words are my mood boosters to keep doing what I do. I’m also grateful for having my designs published in @taukomagazine, an independent magazine for sewing community based in Helsinki and Berlin🌟 All the makes made with my sewing patterns are my fuel to keep going in my chosen path. Just from where I stand, my works have traveled across boundaries💫I had sew much fun working with Tauko team and made new connections with the sewing community. These are the best gifts I get for myself this year!

From my tiny sewing studio, I hope to share more of my works next year. Hope to see yours, too. Have a wonderful year ahead. May you have more opportunities to spend time to do what you love, be with your loved ones, and make beautiful memories. May your dream comes true in 2023!🥂

With the growing ecological and social problems, the way we make, use, and value materials matters more than ever.

Making matters to me because:
🎀 Resources deserve its full potential.
🎀 Materials can be reimagined.
🎀 Traditions can live on.
🎀 Personal style starts with making.
🎀 I learn by creating.

Every act of making is an opportunity to care for people, resources, and the future we share. Above of all, making something releases dopamine which boost my moods, and it keeps me sane in today's very dynamic world😅

If you're in your making or sewing journey and need support, you're invited to join @taukomagazine 's community support, HANDPRINT, on June 2-30, 2026. Check out their page to read more about it. Let's make together!✨

Imperfection deserves a chance. This kimono style jacket is made from flaw textiles. It isn't perfect because it has subtle wax stains, beautiful remnants from the artisan's process. It isn't perfect because it has brown stains for being stored too long.

But they are beautiful flaws that hold stories. They deserve a chance to live a new life, instead of being abandoned or end up in the landfill. Saving the fabrics means saving the resources that were invested in producing them, like the raw materials and manpower. Using available materials instead of virgin materials should save the earth from buried in fashion waste and environmental degradation.

This zero waste reversible jacket is available in our Etsy shop. Tap the link in our bio to visit us💐

Sampah Tekstil Diproyeksi Capai 3,9 Juta Ton pada 2030

Sebagai penghasil polusi terbesar setelah sektor migas, industri fashion dunia menghasilkan 92 juta ton sampah tekstil per tahun, yang berakhir di tempat pembuangan akhir (TPA).

(1) Indonesia sendiri menghasilkan 2,3 juta ton sampah tekstil per tahun.

When you want a totebag, but also a backpack.

Made from my old skirts, with little details I love.
The flower pin made from leftover threads (orts).
The shower curtain rings that hold the straps.
The bow pin from the last standing scrap.
The heart badge, also from orts.
The old buttons.
The old gift ribbon for bias tape.
The scrapockets made from tiny fabric scraps.
The mini pouch from the very last piece of fabric.

I love everything about it💖✨

Also it's big and has a lot of pockets. Well, I can't live without pockets😂

::::::

This reversible kimono jacket is thoughtfully handcrafted from leftover and scrap materials, including wool and traditional Indonesian batik and handwoven textiles. Larger fabric pieces are pieced together into a patchwork design, while tiny scraps and orts (thread snips) are transformed into a unique textile by layering them between two sheets of tulle—creating new fabric from what would otherwise be discarded. Any leftover fabrics produced from this creation are reused to make pockets, the Scrapockets.

The jacket is available in our Etsy shop. Please kindly check the link in our bio. Thank you!✨
