Chatting it up last night at @continuumpbart. Great night. Started out with an art sale by a regular patron of the show a few hours before the Artist Awards Night. @craigmcinnisstudios @ampburks @atbfineartgroup

Artist Education: What Are You Willing to Sacrifice?

Building an art career requires choices.

Trina Burks reminds artists that sacrifice doesn’t always mean something dramatic. It can be as simple as giving up—or limiting—things that consistently take time, money, or attention away from your creative process.

Less screen time. Fewer nights out. Cutting unnecessary subscriptions. Reconsidering how you spend your time and resources.

The question is simple: What are you willing to sacrifice to make room for your art?

This is part of my ongoing series sharing lessons from Trina Burks’ Exposure Doesn’t Pay the Bills—because being an artist is not just about creating. It’s about making choices that support the life and career you want to build.

THE POWER OF LISTENING

In Exposure Doesn’t Pay the Bills, Trina Burks shares a simple reminder that can make a profound difference in an artist’s growth:

LISTEN.

Listen to your peers.
Listen to your mentors.
Listen to your surroundings.
Listen for opportunities.
Listen for danger.
Listen to what’s happening around you.

We ask for advice all the time. But how often do we actually stop, listen, and put it into practice?

Sometimes growth begins not with saying more—but with listening more.

A thought worth sitting with. 📖

Scott Jeffries @scottart shares a short reading from Trina Burks’ book.

One of my biggest cheerleaders @scottart, fellow artist & co- board member of my nonprofit @nmsafpbc at the art collective @thepeachwpb has been great enough to share insights from my book “Exposure Doesn’t Pay the Bills: An Artist Guide to Building a Legacy in the 21st Century “

If you are a creative and have not gotten a copy, please do so.

Thank you Scott. Much appreciated 🙂
