The smorgasbord of sports and the passion it will incite among fans led us to wonder: What is America’s best sports city?

We asked nine writers — @GregBishopSI, @meridak, David Von Drehle, @MelissaIsaacsonMawrence, Darren A. Nichols (@dnick128), @williamfleitch, Dave Levinthal, Julie Kliegman (@jmkliegman) and Perry Bacon — to make their case.

Their choices are defined by grit, glamour and green energy.

The dust has finally settled on a NABJ convention in Atlanta and it didn’t disappoint. The laughs, hugs, catching up and checking in on folks always makes the “family reunion” special.

This year carried a special meaning for me. I’ve always tried to give back to the industry as a mentor. It’s just this time I was treated to seeing former interns as far back as the 90’s. It brought everything from happy hugs to pushing one to meet Ben Crump and a frantic text over a lost badge that would have cost him $200.

It’s a small reminder that being kind, generous, giving and selfless still matters. But the work is never done with another group ready to follow.

When you get a chance this afternoon, give a read to my column on the Terrion Arnold situation.

“Instead of being a citizen, it seems Terrion Arnold decided to turn gangsta. It’s a sad display for a young man who seemed to have the world at his feet. But his tale — at least what court records and media reports show — is a cautionary tale for all young people in major cities like Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans or Los Angeles.

“And this isn’t strictly a sports story. This is one about young adults making the wrong choices, not fully understanding the consequences behind their actions.”

Rule No. 1: Never challenge a Nichols kid on anything.

I told Thing 1 and Thing 2 they could get anything thing they want if they got all A’s in middle school.

Now this girl child of mine breaks my pockets at least twice a year at the theatre. Tonight it was & Juliet at the Fisher.

Why can’t my child want J’s??!! 🤣🤣🤣 by @dnick128

Congrats to Larry Borom Jr. signing with the Detroit Lions. He’s the son of Mumford’s own Larry Borom, Class of 1990, who was my basketball teammate. by @dnick128
