POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My thesis work, Seeking Serenity, is an interdisciplinary performance in collaboration with two independent composers/musicians and MFA and phD students from the School of Art.

@angelicaa.jones has created these beautiful life-size gestural paintings live during the rehearsal process to promote the dancers’ self actualization and give a different perspective to the choreography.

Come see these incredible paintings displayed in the green room in the lobby of Stevie Eller Dance Theater during Aureate Echoes, premiering this Friday!

Performances at 7 pm Friday and 1 and 7pm on Saturday.

Link to tickets is in my bio!

My older brother, Grant, has been through so many health scares and near-death experiences and I am always amazed at how much God has done the impossible in each situation.

At the moment, my brother could use all the prayers he can get to pull through another similar situation.

I’m trusting God has him in the palm of His hand and believing for Grant to make it through. ❤️

**Update on Grant**

He is off the ventilator and is awake and aware of his surroundings and will hopefully only spend a few more days in the ICU. Thank you all for your prayers. They are clearly moving mountains!

In light of the Cornell 7 Case going to trial, I feel this piece I created in response to the Brock Turner/Stanford rape case in 2016 is appropriate to share now.
I wish sexual assault wasn’t still being given such lenient sentences a decade later.

A Victim’s Voice.

🚨TRIGGER WARNING🚨
This choreographic work explicitly details the pain of the victim of the Stanford Rape Case and may be triggering to those who have experienced sexual assault in the past.

I created this piece to explore the emotions the victim of the Stanford Rape Case felt while the whole country discounted her experiences and continued to list off the accomplishments of her assaulter.

I want this piece to cause you to think and to hopefully want to advocate for change on our campuses in this country.

If you want to get involved, EROC, which stands for End Rape On Campus is an excellent organization to reach out to. They fight for girls and boys to have their title IX rights in assault cases on campuses all over the country.

My sweet Aunt Robin would have been 68 today. She passed away on September 28th last year from triple negative breast cancer. She was an incredible artist, a dancer, an Army veteran, a wonderful mother to my cousins Emma and Matthew, and a loving wife to my uncle Chris. I love and miss her dearly. by @do_it_weldon

Maybe she wasn’t born with it, maybe it’s work ethic 💪🏼‼️👀

I am a dancer who did not start dancing early, I started at 9 and had a couple gap years in my training due to moving a lot and finances and I didn’t really get serious formal ballet training until I was 14 years old.

I didn’t understand how woefully unprepared I was to train in a preprofessional setting until I got there and was placed with 11 and 12 year olds and had absolutely no concept of what turnout was or where it came from 😂

The first image was my first arabesque audition photo for summer intensives at 14. A reminder that there are usually multiple takes for audition photos and this was the “best” one. 😅

The second image was my first arabesque audition photo for summer intensives at 15. There is only one year between these two images.

Between image one and image two I had what my parents deemed a “come to Jesus talk” about work ethic and big dreams and the level of investment and sacrifice my parents were making for me to pursue this goal. My parents expected me to work hard if they were going to sacrifice so much for me, otherwise I didn’t have to dance.

We talked about how being behind meant I had to catch up outside of class.
I got books on ballet technique from the library, I started giving myself a daily training regimen of exercises to work on my weaknesses and manage my scoliosis. I kept a dance journal and gave myself corrections.
For Christmas when I was 15, I asked for ankle weights and a jump rope for cross training.

We didn’t have money for private lessons and coaches to help me catch up at the time, but I was given every tool accessible to help myself do the work and catch up. Because any skill can be achieved when you use everything you have to help yourself and be consistent. Rome wasn’t built in a day and you won’t become a pro overnight 😅

I legit asked my dad to remove that first photo from the internet 😂
But now I’m so proud of it.
This is what one year of dedicated focus in your training looks like.

This is why I teach my students that they can achieve anything they put their minds to. Because you can!

Imagine what you can do with a year! 🩰 taken in Cincinnati Ballet Otto M. Budig Academy | Cincinnati Ballet by @do_it_weldon

Throwing it back to performing my embodied prayer solo, ‘Meditative Metamorphosis’ in ORBIT:tiny dances @conderdance April 12th!
The costume I’m wearing I sewed myself for my thesis. 💙

Huge thank you to Carley Conder for curating such a diverse and exciting show and allowing me to have this incredible experience. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a Ten Tiny Dances Festival and it was so exciting to finally make that dream a reality. 🥰

Dancing on a teeny tiny 2 foot high platform is definitely scarier than it looks, though. 😅😂

Thank you to @lightsviewphoto for these beautiful memories from the show!

And huge thank you to @keatoneckhoff for creating the music for this work for me!
Go check him out on Spotify! 🎶

Well, now that my diploma officially came in the mail, I’d like to share that I’ve graduated from University of Arizona @uazdance with a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography!
❤️💙🐱🎓🩰

Getting this degree has been the hardest thing I’ve done in my life thus far, but I am so glad I did it.

Huge thank you to my professors, cohort, friends, and family for all of their support, guidance, and kindness through these last 2 years!
I would not have made it without them. 🫶🏻

Here’s to the next adventure! ❤️💙🥳

Sentimental thesis concert dump: 1/3

I could not be more grateful to have worked with so many talented, thoughtful, emotive, and profound artists in my thesis concert, Seeking Serenity.

This process was deeply personal to me,
as it portrayed my personal faith journey with a message of hope: you can find connection, self actualization, and hope when you connect to something beyond yourself.
When you look past your circumstances and believe something out there sees you, knows you, believes in you, and craves relationship with you. 💙

I pray that everyone who was a part of this process left feeling seen, heard, known, and loved. That they were enough just as is. 💙✨

Thank you to @edfloresphotography for these beautiful images. I saw my dancers bloom in the most beautiful way in your studio 🌱🌹

Thank you to @insta_gi and @uazdance for filming this work for us, allowing me to capture these beautiful screenshots. 💙

Thank you to my dancers, musicians, and artists for collaborating with me in this process. YOU are the real MVPs here!
