Life Update

I always ate healthily and exercised regularly but my body just wasn’t looking the way I wanted.

So three years ago I started to take my nutrition seriously understanding what I was actually putting into my body and how it wasn’t serving my goals. I found consistency, stayed accountable and actively made time for it in my life just like any other skill.

A year later I looked and felt the best I’d ever done and made lasting change. I didn’t think it was possible because of my inconsistent lifestyle but that just wasn’t true.

Now I’m excited to be helping others reach their goals to work with their lives and bodies.

Carbs are not the reason you’re struggling to lose fat.

They’re your body’s preferred source of energy and play a huge role in:

- Fueling workouts
- Supporting muscle growth
- Aiding recovery
- Keeping your brain functioning optimally

So why do low-carb diets often seem to work?

When you reduce carbohydrate intake, your body uses up its glycogen stores. Glycogen is stored with water, so as it’s depleted, you lose water too. That’s why the scales often drop quickly in the first week or two—but that’s not the same as losing body fat.

The real issue is that many processed carbohydrate foods—pastries, biscuits, sweets, sugary drinks and some refined snacks—are highly palatable and easy to overeat. If that pushes you into a calorie surplus over time, that’s what leads to fat gain.

Instead of fearing carbs:
- Pair them with protein and fibre.
- Choose wholegrain or minimally processed sources where possible.
- Build balanced meals.
- Be mindful of portion sizes.

Sweating more does NOT mean you’re burning more fat.

Sweat is simply your body’s cooling system. When your temperature rises, your body releases sweat to help regulate it.

That’s why you can sweat heavily during:
- A HIIT class
- A hot yoga session
- Sitting in a sauna

In fact, the weight you lose through sweating usually comes straight back once you rehydrate.

Some people think sweating equals results because the scale goes down temporarily. If your goal is to change your body composition, you need to focus on what actually drives long-term results.
- Resistance training
- Progressive overload
- Appropriate nutrition
- Recovery
- Consistency

Here’s another reality check:
Your favourite HIIT instructor doesn’t look like that because they do endless HIIT classes. Most likely, they’re also following a structured resistance training programme where weights, reps, and performance are tracked over time.

HIIT is great for:
❤️ Cardiovascular fitness
🔥 Increasing daily energy expenditure
⚡ Fitness and conditioning
🏃 Getting more active

But if your goal is to build muscle, get stronger, and create a leaner physique, resistance training needs to be part of the plan.
And when it comes to tracking fat loss?

Forget judging progress by how much you sweat.
Instead:
- Weigh yourself 3–4 times per week
- Track your average weight
- Take body measurements
- Take progress photos
- Monitor gym performance

Hitting your macros isn’t enough.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that as long as they hit their protein, carbs and fats, the quality of their food doesn’t matter. If you are at the beginning of your journey then sticking to macros is a good start but as you progress, they need to be fine tuned.

The food you consume provides the building blocks for your muscles, hormones, organs, immune system and recovery. If most of your diet comes from highly processed foods, you might hit your numbers on paper but still feel far from your best.

You can have perfect macros and still experience:
- Low energy
- Poor recovery
- Digestive issues
- Reduced training performance
- ncreased hunger and cravings

This doesn’t mean you need a “clean” diet or that processed foods are bad. It means the foundation of your nutrition should come from whole, nutrient-dense foods that provide your body with everything it needs to function properly.

The goal isn’t just to hit your numbers.
The goal is to build a body that performs, recovers and feels good for years to come.

What’s one whole food you think more people should eat?
