MEET THE ARTIST — Walid El Masri

In @walidelmasri_art series Cocoon, massive tree trunks float between heaven and earth. Without roots or solid ground, they become a shelter for countless white cocoons.

Each cocoon holds two possible futures: the emergence of a butterfly, or death for the silk it produces. The material created to allow transformation may become its shroud. Through these suspended forms, El Masri reflects on displacement and alienation, with the cocoons becoming symbols of a wounded homeland.

An artist of Lebanese origin, El Masri works between studios in France and Luxembourg. He will present work from Cocoon at [re]discoveries this November.

26–29 November 2026
Club Strozzi · Barbara Strozzilaan 101, Amsterdam

Presented by Douri a.s.b.l. (@douri.asbl)

STILL HERE ✦ Moments from the exhibition

Some stories are told in words. Others in colour, in music, in movement.

At Rotondes, paintings, posters, sound and bodies in motion shared one space, and visitors moved through it all: pausing at the Story Board, standing close to the works, following the dancers as the music carried the performance across the room.

This was the final chapter of Empowering Creative Minds, two years of listening, creating and building together across Luxembourg, Germany, Poland and Ukraine. What remains is what we saw in your faces that evening: recognition, connection, and the feeling of being seen.

Thank you for being part of it. 🤍

MEET THE ARTISTS — Iman Hasbani & Per Jörgen Erkius @imanpje

One gesture calls for another. One line answers the next.

Based in Germany, @hasbaniiman and Per Jörgen Erkius @puppen_objekttheater come from different languages and cultures. In their everyday life together, drawing became a way to communicate when words did not carry the same meaning for both of them.

Their shared series Duett grew from these exchanges. Working through rhythm and colour, they respond to each other on paper. Each line records a movement, a pause, a moment of connection.

The resulting abstract drawings hold fragments of their time together, leaving room for viewers to bring their own memories and associations.

Presented by Douri a.s.b.l. (@douri.asbl)
Artists representation by: Yusra Amounah (@yusra_amounah)

Discover their Duett drawings at [re]discoveries, 26–29 November at Club Strozzi, Amsterdam.

Meet the artists Emmanuel Fleitz, Tarek Alnabhan & Valeria Khripatch

Emmanuel @manumanok is a self-taught double bassist, composer, and performer based in Lorraine, France. Since 1993 he’s treated the body and the instrument as inseparable, and through his company Man’ok & Cie, blends music, dance, and improvisation.

Tarek @ci_dareq is a Contact Improvisation dancer and teacher based in Luxembourg. Since 2022 he’s grown Luxembourg’s CI community through classes, workshops, and jams, deepening his practice through playfight, dance science, and acroyoga.

Valeria @kh.val.ia.mo is a performing artist, choreographer, and teacher of contemporary dance and improvisation, working at the crossroads of dance, physical theatre, and installation. Her practice explores how the body carries constraint physical, spatial, and social.

For Still Here, the dancers perform Same, Same, But Different, a 25-minute piece imagining trauma as a broken vase glued back together changed in shape, but still holding the memory of the fall. Emmanuel creates its live sound world, a score that breathes alongside the dancers.

Meet Walid El Masri

Walid El Masri @walidelmasri_art trained in marquetry before studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, graduating in 2005, and was formed under major artists such as Marwan Kassab-Bachi, Nazir Nabaa, and Ziad Dalloul. His work has been shown internationally from London and Paris to Dubai and Hong Kong always circling around memory, identity, and material.

For the “Still Here” exhibition, we’re showing the series Les Enfants (The Children), begun in 2011 as direct portraits of children affected by conflict. Over time, the paintings evolved into something quieter: a sanctuary of memory and imagination, where the figures are painted like mist or fleeting grains of dust almost impossible to hold while the objects beside them remain sharp and solid, witnesses to a fading presence. El Masri says of them:
“They are survivors of tragedies for which they bear no fault. The transparent colors on a raw background grant them a freedom with no fixed place, and no identity whose price they must pay. A toy, a fish, small things they cling to enough to lighten the weight of a world that watches them as a mere spectator.”

📍 Opens 8 October at Rotondes @rotondes

Nathalie Lesure

Meet Nathalie Lesure @lesure.nathalie
Nathalie is a Luxembourg-based artist and curator. She holds a degree from the Beaux-Arts du Nord-Pas-de-Calais (2023) and a Master’s in Exhibition and Production of Contemporary Art from the Université de Lille (2024). Her work moves between painting, engraving, and sculpture, built from materials gathered in nature bones, insects, toxic plants, moss, roots exploring transition rather than fixed form.
For Still Here, her pieces sit at the point where life and death draw close: animal portraits, still lifes of bone and plant, and triptychs enclosing forest-found objects like teeth and snakeskin. Looking closely at decay, for her, is a way of accepting it rather than looking away.

📍 Opens 8 October at Rotondes @rotondes

Meet Farshad Afsharimehr
Farshad @farshad.et.patate is a Belgian-Iranian artist and graphic designer based in Luxembourg. Born in Tehran, his passion for art developed early and has stayed with him ever since. He moved to Belgium, where he pursued his craft at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Liège, graduating in 1992.

For Still Here, we’re exhibiting his acrylic works exploring memory, solitude, and identity where figures, landscapes, birds, and potatoes become symbols of something deeper. The recurring potato speaks to nourishment and life at its most basic, while birds evoke freedom and the desire to escape.

“Feelings support our intellect, and intellect supports our feelings.”
We sat down with Valeria Khripatch @kh.val.ia.mo dancer, choreographer, and self-taught artist based in France, originally from Belarus for our Empowering Creative Minds series.
From leaving a career in oil and gas to fully embracing contemporary dance, from two migrations in three years to building community from scratch each time, Valeria’s journey is a reminder that art doesn’t erase difficulty it transforms it.
On vulnerability, she told us: being a vulnerable artist means staying sincere and facing precarity every day, without losing yourself to the need to be seen.
Swipe through / link in bio to read the full interview, where Valeria opens up about improvisation, migration, institutional support, and using irony instead of drama to process pain.
