BARCELONA SENSORIUM
Presentacions

Planning Miseducation.
Urban Design Pedagogies Against and Beyond the University.
Ignacio Farias, Mennatullah Hendawy, Indrawan Prabaharyaka, Jörg Stollmann (eds.)

Planning Miseducation is a book full of intentions and intensities. It is an intervention against dissatisfaction with how urban design and planning have been taught. If you ever imagine teaching and learning planning and design for cities differently, rather than mere repetition without making a difference, this book is for you. If you believe that planning and design are about making spaces of hope, for a city yet to come, this book is also for you. It is a reference for those who are keen to stop the bad education, to relearn the urban expertises from informal, street-related knowledges, and to take the risk of planning and organising the positive miseducation of future planners and designers.

With contributions by: Geetika Anand, Antonio Bernacchi, Tomás Criado, Rendy Diningrat, Federica Duca, Enrique Espinosa Sánchez, Adolfo Estalella, Ignacio Farías, Verónica Francés, Ester Gisbert, Rupali Gupte, Mennatullah Hendawy, Gilly Karjevsky, José Laulhé, Alicia Lazzaroni, Mark Lemanski, Pablo Llobera, Ana López Ortego, Veljko Markovic, Candela Morado, Enrique Nieto, Manuel Pascual, Alberto Peralta, Camilo Pinto AKA Casi Nadie, Indrawan Prabaharyaka, La Escuela Nunca y los Otros Futuros (Ignacio Rivas, Leandro Cappetto and Eloise Maltby Maland), Poonam Prakash, Nahuel Quiroga, Prasad Shetty, Jörg Stollmann, Fotini Takirdiki, Rosario Talevi, Kemal Taruc, Raúl Urquiaga and Bohdan Volynskyi.

SOFT is taking over the LINA Library!

Softness is often seen as a practice of yielding: quietly receiving whatever life brings with grace and a warm smile. For us, however, softness means radically taking responsibility for oneself and others, while nurturing the capability for critical introspection. Being Aggressively Soft, by extent, is to be militantly committed to embracing others, across borders, binaries and disciplines. Aggressively Soft is a practice of resistance.

SOFT – School of Transformation embodies a critical stance towards the architectural discipline, its institutions and pedagogies, envisioning a juster practice through parasitic, soft, and joyful interventions. As radical non-experts we learn by doing and actively engaging with social issues, questioning hierarchies at every level and challenging the violence of bureaucratic standardisation and physical normativity.

Together, we will investigate how the LINA-library can transgress its archival purposes by becoming an active medium of discourse that is able to adapt its form to the diverse spatial output of the LINA community.

Since Aggressively Soft is above all dedicated to the process of collective exploration and an open-ended search for an alternative pedagogy, we welcome you to join us for twelve experiments of talking space, power, landscape and the forces of identity, until perhaps these conversations blur into someplace Soft entirely.

Pre-occupancy 4
Blurring the Kitchen Work Triangle
Ethel Baraona Pohl, Anna Puigjaner, Cesar Reyes Najera

The fourth tenant moves in.

Our kitchens are not neutral. Before the postwar suburban home, apartment-hotels across 19th-century New York shared kitchens, dining halls, and laundries between families — a model born from postwar economics and early feminist theory. Read how the kitchen work triangle turned that collective living into isolation, dressed up as progress.

Pre-occupancy is a series by @volume.architecture.mag and the @europeancollectivehousingaward on what happens when the occupant stops being an afterthought. Seven pieces from the VOLUME archive, plus one new arrival, moving in one at a time.

Read it now - link in our bio.

Next Monday, the fifth - and a new - tenant arrives.

Over the past week, we had the privilege of participating in the @lina.community annual gathering alongside the wonderful LINA family—our fellow platform members and the new cohort of LINA Fellows. Under the title LINA Blueprints, curated by Federica Zambeletti (@zambesmile), this year offered a moment to reflect on LINA’s first three years.

Our very own @cerreyes and @claramalan are dpr-barcelona representatives on the @lina.community activities. As platform members we want to express our deep gratitude for the collaborations that keep us actively engaged—projects that inspire us and from which we constantly learn:

The LINA Writing Award, our ongoing collaboration with the @irisharchitecturefoundation and its Education and Learning Manager, Bláithín Quinn, is an initiative that commissions and publishes two books each year. The latest titles ‘Spectres of the Concrete Atlantis’ by @bulajicc and ‘Learning with Ghosts’ by @jacques.marie and @lucille.leger; along with the past ones ‘Curating Ecologies on Architecture’ by @patriciasilvacoelho; ‘Tender and Toxic Tales’ by @jurivelt.xyz; ‘Shallow Time: The Burren’ by @tom_g_cookson and ‘Atlas of Urban Mythologies’ by Sergios Strigklogiannis & Francesca Cocchiara @urban_mythologies were presented at the LINA Library during Blueprints.

We also had the pleasure of sharing these days with @plantingsolidarity, curators of the 2025–26 edition of @thelinalibrary, themed ‘Speaking with Your Mouth Full,’ offering a constellation of stories, gestures, and invitations to listen more closely. Each contribution calls for kinship, for care, for reimagining how we live together.

Also featured at the Blueprints LINA Library were collaborative projects such as ‘Planet Krvavica. Surveying Local Futures Through Practices of Imperfect Care’ edited by Ana Dana Beroš @anadanaberos and Mika Savela @mikasavela with Ethel Baraona Pohl and César Reyes Nájera @cerreyes, co-published with our dear comrades at DAI-SAI. Alongside it, the wonderful ‘Staging Ground: infrastructure, performance, and bodies in movement’ edited by @public_culture_, designed by @typicalorganization, and co-published with our friends @cityastheatre.

#Koozlibrary | “MOULD: It’s the Economy…” an excerpt from the publication ‘Architecture As Climate’ (dpr-barcelona @dpr_barcelona, 2025) by MOULD @mould_earth, a research collective of Sarah Bovelett @boveletti, Anthony Powis, Tatjana Schneider @tat_schneider, Christina Serifi @christina.ser, Jeremy Till @jeremytill, and Becca Voelcker.
Having established a resource-laden website of the same name, Architecture As Climate sounds the klaxon that research collective MOULD have long called for, in a punchy and petite publication. This extract expounds on architecture’s entanglements with economic systems.

Earlier today, we learned that our dear comrades, friends, and distributors @ideabooksnl suffered from a terrible fire that affected their warehouse in Amsterdam.

We send our deepest solidarity and love to the entire Idea Books team, as well as to all our colleagues who may have lost books in this unfortunate event.

And as they had always taught us, remember:

📂 In this conversation, critic and writer Ethel Baraona Pohl (@dpr_barcelona) speaks with sociologist, researcher, and curator Pelin Tan (@brucelee.2084) about practices that weave together art, architecture, archives, and everyday life. From documenting protests in Istanbul to cultivating seed archives across the Mediterranean, Tan’s work moves across geographies and disciplines, questioning how memory, solidarity, and collective imagination are sustained. Together, they reflect on filmmaking, food, and archives as tools to resist erasure and to envision new forms of care – bursting the bubbles that separate the personal from the professional, local from global, and theory from practice. Read the full conversation in VOLUME 68 by ordering via the link in bio, or subscribe to the magazine so you never have to miss out!

🫧 VOLUME 68 contains 13 conversations in which architects and designers meet inspiring figures outside of their bubble to find points of engagement and exchange notes on professional practices, marking the occasion of VOLUME’s contribution to the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Carlo Ratti.

At dpr-barcelona we have been exploring the spaces of reading together as spaces of encounters for several years now. We have initiated spontaneous an intimate events or more institutional readings rooms—and all in between. One of those beautiful projects is the Parasitic Reading Room, convened together with our dear bookworm and partner in crime @lapistera back in 2018.

Following all those conversations, intuitions, and shared experiences, the past week our very own Ethel Baraona Pohl visited the @bergenschoolofarchitecture for the first time, thanks to an invitation by our dear comrade Rosario Talevi (@lapistera), along with Anders Rubing (@rudjordrubing) and Kandis Friesen (kandisf). On the framework of their Mater Studio ‘SPATIAL PRACTICES OF CARE: Reading Together Gender & Space,’ Ethel was invited to organise a workshop and deliver a lecture.

The result was the workshop “What is a library, anyway?” and during two days, together we discussed different approaches to what a library is—a brief summary can be: for Shannon Mattern libraries are platforms and social infrastructures; for Mosab Abu Toha they are critical places of learning and solace; for Alberto Manguel they are a place where ghosts have voices, and for Eric Klinenberg libraries are the palaces for the people. For Borges, the library is a kind of Paradise (or the other way around). Susan Sontag saw it as an archive of longings and Jean-Paul Sartre as a temple.

On those two days, we wandered through the bookshelves, discussed classification systems and methods, their pros and cons; we researched, discussed, and problematised the temporal and spatial dimensions and the relations of power at play in the library. We read aloud together (excerpts from Hélène Frichot’s Dirty Theory to Shannon Mattern’s A city is not a computer, among others); we discussed the concept of “weeding”. We forgot about computers and digital devices and created some beautiful old-school zines; we cooked, eat, and had fun together.

We can only say: Tusen takk Rosario, Anders, and Kandis for the generosity and hospitality, thanks to all the students for the energy, criticality, and freshness of your thoughts and work. taken in Bergen School of Architecture by @dpr_barcelona

Performing Architecture
A project by @base_milano and @dopo.space

Performing Architecture is a citywide festival launched in Milan through the collaboration between BASE and DOPO?, which engaged five districts in the southern suburbs—Corvetto, Chiaravalle, Stadera, Barona and Tortona—weaving a symbolic route among cultural centres.

Its goal was to create a laboratory of experimentation capable of generating exercises in collective thinking and fostering dialogue and active participation within local communities. Comprising three essays (by Linda Di Pietro, Salvatore Peluso and Alessandro Pasero) and five conversations with the participating authors, the publication does not celebrate the festival experience but seeks to reinterpret it critically. Rather than attempting to theoretically redefine the boundaries and possibilities of the architectural discipline, the project by BASE and DOPO? stems from a pure desire for experimentation.

This publication goes beyond theoretical speculation, looking at practices from within with the aim of analysing them, bringing new themes to light, and generating repeatable and verifiable protocols.

On fortress Europe, HouseEurope, and the borders of participation.

On November 11th, a group of engaged students from the @master.arch.lu @uni.lu set up a @houseeurope.eu booth at the exterior hall of the university. They built the stand following the initiative's nice design instructions, talked to passers-by, and pitched the initiative in a chilly public space. It was a reminder of how challenging public engagement can be!

When the action finished I asked them whether they had signed the initiative, and many of the most engaged answered: “We can’t. We’re not EU citizens.” And there it was, an uncomfortable truth behind European Citizens’ Initiative model, and Europe democratic spaces in general: The very people doing the essential work are excluded from the democracy they are asked to build, care, and promote.

The non EU students who are volunteering, assembling materials, running awareness events, and spreading the word: they are the same people living in Europe in overcrowded or unhealthy rooms, paying impossible rents, or navigating the fragile legality of visas. They know Europe’s housing crisis not as a policy challenge, but as a daily reality. Their labour is welcome. Their stories are useful. But their signatures are not valid. I'm wondering if this situation is the same in other European countries, as the initiative is coming out from academic circles, where the presence of non EU students is also relevant.

#HouseEurope! has built a compelling campaign and is sparkling a necessary debate about renovation over demolition and waste. But the initiative also reveals something else: awareness — no matter how beautifully designed — is not enough. Democratic participation cannot rely on thresholds that exclude those who are also building Europe’s present and future.

And here's a note of self-reflection for all of us working on "civic initiatives": we cannot call for mobilisation while reinforcing the borders that silence many of those most affected. Real participation begins by recognising and legitimising all those who are building Europe but are conveniently kept outside “the fortress”.
