Sure, as they age, we may need to modify their activity, give them more recovery time, do a little more body work, and accept that they might sleep a lot.
But the foundations of keeping them healthy don’t really change:

🏃🏼‍♀️Movement — keep them moving in ways that are appropriate for their body and abilities.
🥩 Good nutrition — support their changing nutritional needs and maintain a healthy body condition. Seniors need more protein in their diets and PLEASE keep them lean.
🤲🏼 Body work — help address areas of tension, compensation, and decreased mobility. Chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage, laser therapy, and shockwave are all great options!
💪🏼 Strengthening — maintaining muscle, balance, coordination, and stability becomes even more important as they age. Canine conditioning + MYOS supplement has been our go-to!

Getting older doesn’t mean they have to stop doing the things they love. It just means we may have to get a little more creative about how they do them.

Don’t fall victim to “they’re just getting old”!!!

It’s so easy to look at someone else’s life and suddenly question your own. To see their milestones, their career, their next big thing, and feel like you should be doing more. But you can admire what someone else has without making what you have feel smaller.

You’re allowed to want something different. You’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to build a life that feels good to live, even if it doesn’t look impressive on a screen.

The only person your life needs to make sense to is you.

I went MIA over the last month and it felt incredibleeee. I worked a lot on myself, took time off, changed my schedule to help with burnout, and came back feeling more inspired than ever. 💖 Going to focus on being more transparent on this app. Showing the good, the bad, and the ugly! by @dr.alexferrero

The most magical session with Alex and her sweet little family 🥹

Mother Nature really showed off during this evening with a little drizzle, some insane lighting and a double rainbow to top it off 🌈

Molly and Fritz were the sweetest girlies and simply had a blast out in nature. Molly, while getting older in age, shared her extreme excitement with barks everytime she got out of the car and some impressive jumps in the Twin Lakes. Fritz shared her spunk, hunting all the little critters in the field and biting at her sister when she got too far out into the water.

Shoots like these are exactly why I love doing this 🥰 Felt positively warm and fuzzy on my drive home. Thank you again Alex for trusting me with taking these photos 🫶🏻

Focusing on what matters most ✨

My husband. My dogs. My friends. Time off. And a life that exists outside of work and a screen.

I’m taking some time away from this silly little app to focus on being more present in my actual life. Lately, I’ve caught myself doom scrolling for way more hours than I’d like to admit and when the hours outside of work already feel so limited, I don’t want to spend them staring at my phone.

So, I’m giving myself a month away. Maybe it’ll be just a month, maybe it’ll turn into a few. Who knows. Instagram used to feel fun and lighthearted, but lately I’ve noticed it bringing me more anxiety than enjoyment, and that feels like a pretty good sign that it’s time to step away for a bit.

I’ll always be grateful for this little corner of the internet and the people it’s brought into my life. Especially since moving here, it’s connected me with some truly incredible people and friendships that I wouldn’t have otherwise. 🤍

I know announcing an Instagram break feels a little dramatic but since quite a few people reach out to me through here, consider this your heads-up that I won’t be checking or responding to Instagram messages while I’m away.

If you need me for anything dog-related, please reach out through our business number or my personal number if you have it.

Much love, friends. Remember to go touch grass!

Our 11th summer together ✨

“Molly injured? No way. Not her. Not my dog.”

That was something I had a really hard time wrapping my head around last fall.

She had always bounced back. She had never missed a walk, a hike, an adventure. She was always right there beside me. Somewhere along the way, I had created this mental block that she was invincible.

Yes, I celebrated every birthday, but I never really let myself acknowledge that she was getting older. Her mind was sharp, her body was strong, and she was still living life like she always had. In my mind, we had so much time left.

Then came the exhausting months of searching for answers, trying to help her heal, and wondering if she’d ever be the dog who never missed a walk again.

We finally found the answers and the treatment, but I didn’t know if she’d ever fully return to herself.

And I had to face something I wasn’t ready for: she is getting older.

Heading into this summer, I was cautiously optimistic, but mostly determined. We put in the work for the last three months, and today she hiked an out-and-back to an alpine lake. Something, that I think, is one of her favorite things to do.

Maybe that doesn’t sound like much to most people.

But to me, it meant everything.

Because there was a time when I genuinely didn’t know if I’d ever get to experience a day like this with her again.

My 11th summer with her. And I don’t know how many more I get. So I’m never taking a moment for granted and I’m taking her with me every where I can.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made with my own dogs over the last year (especially after Molly’s injury) is becoming intentional about recovery.

As an animal chiropractor, I see active dogs every day and one thing they all have in common is that their bodies need time to recover. High-energy breeds don’t get a free pass just because they’re always ready for another hike, another game of fetch, or another mile.

Movement creates positive stress on the body. Recovery is when the body adapts to that stress.

That’s why I intentionally schedule rest days.
Not because my dogs are tired mentally, but because I want to give their muscles, joints, tendons, and nervous system the opportunity to recover before asking them to perform again.

Our rest days usually include:
- Shorter, controlled walks on leash
- CBD to support a healthy inflammatory response and post-exercise comfort
- Massage, stretching, and chiropractic care

Remember: recovery isn’t the opposite of progress. Recovery is part of progress.

If your goal is to have a dog that can keep hiking, running, playing, and adventuring for years… rest days deserve a place in the routine. 🤍 by @dr.alexferrero

Who else is counting down to vacation? 🙋‍♀️☀️

We’re here for your furry family all week long—but even animal chiropractors need a little time to recharge. 🤪

As we head into August and September, some of our doctors will be taking some well-deserved vacations. If your pup is due for an adjustment or you know you’ll need an appointment, now’s the perfect time to get on the schedule!

A little planning now means your fur babe won’t miss out on the care they need!

Cooper’s progress✨

This poor guy came in Tuesday with acute neck pain - head tilt, stiff posture, and whimpering. 🫣 He has shown incredible improvement and we are so happy for him and his family!

“But they’re acting normal!” ➝ That’s one of the most common things I hear.

The truth is, dogs are incredibly good at adapting. They don’t wake up one day with arthritis or suddenly start compensating overnight. Most changes happen gradually, and our pets do their best to hide discomfort and keep up with life.

Waiting for a limp or obvious symptom means we may have missed months, or years, of subtle signs.

Animal chiropractic care isn’t just about fixing problems. It’s about supporting healthy movement before those problems become obvious.

Because sometimes the biggest changes happen before anyone realizes something was wrong. by @dr.alexferrero

Morning in the life ✨ I love these silly little videos.

My husband recently asked me what I did in the morning (he leaves for work at 3am), because he thinks my life revolves around the dogs... turns out he’s right 😂

But I make sure to always prioritize movement, nutrition, and sunlight for the all of us 🤍
