POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This morning I was exhausted.

Halfway through my workout, a song came on that immediately took me back to creating choreography with @sapa.suki (I miss you so much 😭).

For a moment, I wasn’t thinking about reps, sets, or what was next.

I was thinking about community.
About culture.
About why I fell in love with movement in the first place.

I slowed down.

And somehow… I left the gym feeling more energized than when I walked in.

It made me think about dance.

When we’re frustrated because the turns aren’t happening…
The leaps don’t feel right…
Or the tricks aren’t coming together…

What if the answer isn’t always to do more?

What if it’s to slow down?

Take a breath.

Feel the rhythm instead of rushing to the next count.

Notice where you’re holding unnecessary tension.

Give yourself permission to take up space.

Learn to manage your nerves instead of fighting them.

Develop your movement vocabulary—not just your list of tricks.

Because the dancers who connect with the music, the space, and themselves don’t just perform skills.

They move people.

Sometimes slowing down is exactly what helps you move forward.

If you’re ready to build confidence, movement quality, and performance from the inside out, let’s work together.

Don’t you just hate when a healthcare provider says, “Well… then just don’t do that.”

Especially because you know…

YOU’RE GOING TO DO IT. 😂

And that’s not to say rest isn’t important. Sometimes rest absolutely is part of the plan.

But there’s something different about working with a healthcare professional who understands what you love to do—and understands that simply telling you to stop doing it isn’t always the most helpful answer.

After a thorough exam to make sure it’s appropriate and safe to continue, the conversation can become:

How can we modify it?
What can we work on right now?
What might need to temporarily change?
And how can we keep you moving toward what you love as safely as possible?

Sometimes the answer really is rest.

But sometimes there’s a better plan than, “Just don’t do that.”

If you’re a dancer or mover looking for care that considers what you actually need your body to DO, let’s work together.

I didn’t think this audio would make me cry, but here I am, being the emotional Pisces that I am. 😭🥹♓️

Reflecting on my dance journey 🥹❤️

I never imagined dance would become such a huge part of my life.

I found dance at 15. I worked and cleaned the studio to help pay for classes. I danced 20–30 hours a week, even taking classes with the minis just to catch up. I was determined to find a way to dance.

I used to cringe watching these old videos, but hearing this audio made me want to go back and hug my younger self. 🥹

That 15-year-old kid from the small town of Santa Maria had no idea where dance would take him. From Santa Maria to SoCal, New York, and places I never imagined I’d go.

Dance was my escape. My exploration. It became my job, and now, 18 years later, it’s become a way to reconnect with myself, my community, and my culture.

And somehow, I’m 33 now?! 😅😭

Life has changed so much, and so have I. But watching these videos reminds me of the kid who just wanted to dance and found a way to make it happen.

I think that’s what this chapter of my life has been about. Returning to that passion, that curiosity, that sense of wonder. Remembering my why.

Not necessarily trying to become who I was, but reconnecting with the parts of me that have always been there. ❤️

Thank you, dance. Thank you to every teacher, friend, student, and community I’ve met along the way.

18 years later, that 15-year-old kid is still dancing. And I think he’d be pretty proud of us. 🥹🫂❤️

✨ THROWBACK THURSDAY: REVISITING DANCE IN MY 30s 🥹🫶🏽

I used to think that revisiting dance in my 30s meant I was already past my prime.

I’ve always dabbled in different dance styles, but some I haven’t touched in YEARS. Recently, I was asked to sub a hip hop class, so I revisited choreography I created back in 2019, when I was still in my 20s.

And honestly? I didn’t know I could still move that quickly LOL 😂😭

This year has been about taking care of myself mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally. ❤️ And the way I’ve been training and preparing my body has helped me rediscover what I’m capable of as a dancer.

Because there are so many ways to train for dance outside of dance itself. Building strength, power, mobility, and confidence are all ways we can support the human and athlete behind the dancer. 🫶🏽

Do our bodies change? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean we can’t continue getting stronger, moving better, and discovering what our bodies are capable of today.

And maybe my prime isn’t behind me. Maybe I’m still becoming. 🥹

That’s what my 30s have been about. Revisiting the things that bring me joy and reconnecting with parts of myself I thought I’d left behind.

Sometimes, the hardest part is taking that first step into a brave space. Being okay with dance feeling different. Being okay with feeling like a beginner again.

Because even when our bodies change, that love and joy for dance can still remain. ❤️

So on this Throwback Thursday, let this be your sign to take that dance class. Even if it feels foreign. Even if it’s been YEARS.

Keep revisiting until it feels like home again. 🫂

And if you need support along the way, whether it’s strength, mobility, or rebuilding confidence, I’d love to work with you! Or I can connect you with some amazing dance and dance medicine practitioners near you. 🫶🏽

No matter where you’re starting or restarting, there’s space for you in dance.

So let me be the first to say: Welcome back to dance. I’m so proud of you. 🥹🫂🫶🏽❤️

Becoming a stronger dancer starts with becoming a stronger human. 💪🏽

Want to improve your leaps and jumps? You have to train them! 🚀

Strength and power are related, but they are not the same.

Strength training focuses on your ability to produce force. It builds the foundation that helps you push off the floor, control your body, and handle physical demands.

Power training focuses on producing force quickly. It teaches you to use your strength explosively so you can jump higher, move faster, and react more efficiently.

That means incorporating:

🔥 Strength training to build force capacity and control
🔥 Power training to apply force quickly and explosively
🔥 Plyometrics to develop reactivity and use the stretch-shortening cycle
🔥 Jump training to improve takeoff mechanics, coordination, and height
🔥 Landing mechanics to absorb force safely and prepare for the next movement

You need strength to create force, but you need power to express that force quickly.

Train your strength. Train your power. Train the movements you want to improve. 🫶🏽

Got to put my dance teacher hat back on today! 😂🫶🏽

I haven’t taught this combo since my days working with my boys at Troy High School for a set that was debuted during Covid 🥹❤️ That chapter of my life will always hold such a special place in my heart. So many memories, so much laughter, and so much love for what I got to do.

Slowly but surely, I’m coming out of retirement in all aspects of dance. 🫂🫶🏽❤️

And it feels so good to be back. 🥹
