not me coming back with one last graduation dump📸🤭this moment deserves it.

this year, I was honored with the DSc Academic Excellence Award and that recognition means even more knowing everything I was navigating behind the scenes. From motherhood and postpartum to research, writing, and pushing through exhaustion, every late night and every sacrifice led to this moment.

as a Detroit native and a Black woman in cybersecurity and research, this journey has been about so much more than a degree. It’s representation, resilience, community, and proof that we belong in these spaces too✨ by @dr.jeree

This accomplishment is deeply personal, today, I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation, a journey that began in 2020 when I first applied to the program. After receiving a Crohn’s diagnosis, I paused my plans to prioritize my health. In 2023, I re-entered the process with full clarity, purpose, and faith. Balancing a full-time career, motherhood, and doctoral research wasn’t easy.

I’ve encountered doubt, criticism, and moments where the weight of it all felt overwhelming. But I leaned into my faith, stayed grounded, and pressed forward. I did this not just for the title but to show what’s possible when you lead with faith, purpose, and resilience

To every Black woman in cybersecurity who’s ever felt unseen; I see you, I am you, and this is for you.

A book I created specifically to remind Black women in cybersecurity that we are capable, qualified, and worthy of taking up space will now be sitting on a shelf at one of the biggest celebrations of Black creativity, culture, and community. I was honored to speak at the IAFOR Washington DC Conference on the Social Sciences 2026, presenting my research and it’s now published in the official conference proceedings! My article is titled “Likes, Validation, and Peer Pressure: The Emotional Drivers of Risky Online Behavior on Social Media”

As someone who’s spent years in cybersecurity, I can tell you the tech isn’t usually the problem. WE are. Here is what my research discovered⤵️

🔹validation feels SO good, it quietly drives what we choose to post
🔹peer pressure beats privacy concerns almost every single time
🔹most people already know the risk and post anyway, because connection wins

this is the human side of cybersecurity nobody talks about enough and it’s exactly why I research cyber and everything in between 🌐✨

My newest book, I Belong Here: Words of Affirmation for Black Women in Cybersecurity is officially published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both paperback and eBook formats. This book is different from anything I’ve ever created. It’s a step outside of my usual cybersecurity world and a collection of my inner thoughts, experiences, affirmations, and the vulnerable moments that have shaped me as a Black woman navigating this industry and life as a whole.

A huge thank you to @palmettopublishing for taking on another project with me and bringing this vision to life.

And to the women who have poured into me, mentored me, prayed for me, amplified me, corrected me, and held me up when I was tired. This book carries pieces of all of you.

Today, I had the honor of presenting my first published paper as a doctor in the cybersecurity industry at the 65th IACIS Conference in front of fellow scholars, researchers, and thought leaders.

Our article, “Hack Back or Step Back? Exploring an Ethical Dilemma Between Cyber Defense and Cyber Vigilantism,” is now officially published in the Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS). This work was born out of my summer research fellowship at Marymount University along side Dr. Donna Schaeffer and Dr. Patrick Olson where we explored the legal and ethical gray areas of “hacking back” and cyber vigilantism in private-sector defense.

In an era of increasing cyber threats, I believe the conversation about ethics, legality, and accountability in digital spaces is more important than ever. I’m beyond proud to contribute to the academic side of cybersecurity.

This year has been all about wellness, softness, and being intentional with how I live, love, and take care of myself. 31 Shades of Ree was a celebration of that and it meant everything to me. It was everything I needed and more. To every one of my friends who showed up, showed love, and helped bring this vision to life: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Y’all made this moment feel special and completely me🥺🫶🏽
