I started July with 250 followers, and now there are over 5,500 new faces here, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself. I’m Jes. My background is in chemistry, research and development, and FOOD. I was a chemist in so many different industries, and I was a line cook through school; I thought I found my calling when my worlds collided, and I became a food scientist (it was not my calling lol). My love of food started out of desperation; I grew up hungry most of my childhood, and I learned how to cook for my little sister and myself when I was 8 by watching good eats on food network.
I’m a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, and I graduated valedictorian of my class (while I was pregnant lol). I chose to quit my very stable, very ok enough chemistry job in the middle of the pandemic, because I felt that there had to be more to life than whatever I was doing. I wanted to help people in a way that was wholesome, and TCM reminded me of my grandparents.
I’m vietnamese-american and I recently found a new appreication for how special my culture and food are.
I started GOOD PLACE with a newborn and had no idea what I was doing; all I knew was that I wanted to help people feel better and share my love of food with them (just like my grandparents). Thank you for being here with me. I am truly grateful.

Whenever I don’t feel like myself, I know it’s my own fault (lol)
These are some meals and bevs that I love for when I’m feeling “off.” They’re generally easy to make/get, because when you don’t feel right, you do NOT need ONE MORE thing to cook or clean up.
• Congee I make in the rice cooker: walk away and it’s ready in 45 min
• hormone support rose, Longan, jujube, and goji tea from @drinktheqi —ready in 3 min
• seolleongtang: harder to find, but if you find a Korean restaurant that has it, never let it go
• chrysanthemum tea I have everyday because I can’t stop doomscrolling and my eyes hurt
• yin’er tang: harder to get/make BUT if you make a big batch it’ll last you a while.
• my fave buckwheat tea from @senbirdtea

If you’re interested in other TCM meals that can help you feel less “off,” my booking link is in bio
If you’re outside SoCal, I also offer telehealth visits so we can work together virtually 🤝✨

what’s in my grocery cart (Asian market edition) as a TCM doctor and toddler mom 🤝
My toddler is PICKY and only really likes fruits and tofu, so here are some things that I buy regularly for both him and our family to easily incorporate eastern medicine nutrition into everyday life. Not pictured are basics like eggs, milk, silken tofu, MEATS, etc…
If you’re interested in OM nutrition, we should work together 🤝BOOKING LINK IN BIO✨

The question I get the most lately is, “do you do virtual appointments?” and “what is it like? What does it include?” So, here’s a breakdown on how I work with my patients who aren’t able to make it into clinic.
I decided to start doing virtual appointments, because I noticed that my in person patients would see fantastic results…☝🏻WHEN they did their homework and took their herbs, because wellness is 90% daily habits, diet, and lifestyle. If I needle you once a week, it doesn’t undo or resolve the other 6 days.
The goal is to give my patients tools for healthy, lifelong habits that they can easily implement into their everyday life. It’s not about radical change, but making small changes everyday that make a big difference.
If you’re interested in learning more about TCM foods and herbs and how to incorporate it into your daily meals, we should work together!

People often come to me as a last resort: “I’ve tried everything else, nothing’s worked, I want to try the eastern medicine route” but TCM is about living preventatively, and I work with my patients to prevent them from using acupuncture as a last resort (cut my life into pieces) and graduating them to coming to me for their 5,000 mile service instead.
These are things that are just *known* when you study TCM, but aren’t known to be normal in “west”.
If you’ve been feeling “off” and biomedicine can’t give you a reason why, TCM has ways of explaining nuanced and subtle body sensations that western medicine has never been able to.

Integrating TCM into everyday life is not about radical change, but making small changes everyday that make a big difference. If you’re interested in learning more about TCM foods and herbs and how to incorporate it into your everyday life, we should work together!

TCM Dessert Soups - episode 04
This bird’s nest soup is something I have been making more often recently when I want a sweet treat after dinner, because it’s addicting and so so SO easy. It’s delicious and incredible for the skin because it’s full of a premium collagen peptide called Verisol.

Comment “RECIPE” and I’ll message you the recipe 💫

My husband and 1 year old love it, but they don’t know that it’s made of bird saliva 😅
It comes together in 10 min because @goldennestusa made it easy. It’s a definite crowd pleaser that you can feel good about serving to your loved ones.
It’s also something I’ve been making lately as the air gets drier and my body and skin need a little more of a moisture boost ✨

If you come in to the office for treatment, you know I make you a personalized after treatment tea 🫖🍵
TCM doesn’t need to be difficult to incorporate into everyday life; sometimes it just takes a daily tea to make big change.
If you can’t make it into the office to have tea time with me, you can grab my Tea for Every Season ebook in my bio link!
It’s a tea cookbook that’s tailored to every season of life and of the year. 🌿🍵☕️🪷
This week’s teas in the office included:

I’ve been wearing these on repeat because I can’t be bothered to think of new outfits this week. Especially with the heat wave in SoCal, it’s been feeling like whatever I decide to wear is the wrong thing haha

TCM Dessert Soups — episode 03
I woke up yesterday with a crazy stress breakout on my cheeks, and I immediately went to make this osmanthus lotus root porridge. In TCM, breakouts on certain regions of your face correspond to specific organ disharmony. For your cheeks: it’s because of your stomach. Using lotus root to clear heat, strengthen the stomach, and benefit digestive and blood health. It’s osmanthus season now!! And they’re medicinally used to promote skin health, ease stress, and calm inflammation.
Adding certain TCM ingredients and herbs to everyday foods can make a huge difference.
