This is why I do what I do. 🙌

I was feeling a little frustrated this week and then I got this message. Funny how a little perspective shift changes things…

Anyways. I love helping people get back to their lives without limitation. I’ve been there with my own injuries (a lot of them); I know missing out on life ain’t fun.

If you’re currently limited in life, comment 👇 DM me and let’s talk about getting you back to 100% by @drlukebrohm

There are a bunch of new faces around here, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself for those of you who don’t know me!

I’m Luke. I’m a PT, dad of 3, former D1 athlete, and someone who has personally rehabbed his way back from some pretty serious injuries.

I’d love to connect if you’re struggling with pain, raising kids, or just trying to squeeze the most out of life.

Comment 👇 or DM and let’s chat about it.

Functionally strong = you have the ability to do all of your life demands without limitation.

Being a parent is often an athletic endeavor. I never want to be limited from fully participating with my kids.

I don’t lift weights to look good; I lift weights to be a functionally strong parent.

Are you a parent looking to regain your functional strength and stop being limited from playing with your kids?

Here’s what I’d tell this skeleton with low back pain:

“Your back hurts because you don’t have good control of your pelvis. Learn to stabilize it and your low back muscles won’t have to work so hard, which takes stress off your back.”

Share this with a fellow bony friend dealing with back pain 💀

Experts do the basics better.

The same thing goes for our body. Expert movers hurt less.

Another way to think about it: do the little things right and the big things take care of themselves.

Learn how to move your body correctly, and there’s a good chance you won’t have any more pain.

Comment or DM me “expert” and let’s talk about how to get you moving like an expert.

Most people waste their time on cat cow. Here’s the fix.

Add breath work and you get a lot more out of it. It improves activation of your core and postural stabilizing muscles in a natural movement pattern.

Rounding up: exhale all your air out, pull your ribs in toward midline, contract your abs, and squeeze your pelvic floor.

Lowering to neutral: inhale and let your pelvic floor relax and lengthen as your diaphragm pulls down into the abdominal cavity.

Next time you’re dealing with pain, try this variation.

If random Instagram exercises aren’t cutting it, DM me “breathe” and let’s figure out what’s going on.

⚠️ Your back hurts when you stand up from bending over?

‼️ Here’s why.
-When you bend forward, gravity does most of the work, so your back muscles don’t have to. But coming back up, you have to fight gravity.
-If your spine isn’t properly stabilized, that puts excess pressure on your low back.
-Most people also crank into extra lumbar extension at the top, which makes it worse.

✅ The fix is learning to actively engage your core and glutes. That takes the pressure off your back and spreads the load evenly through your spine, so you can stand up without pain.

Pain when you stand up is common, but it’s not normal, and it’s fixable

If you want to learn more about how I can help you fix your movements, DM me”BACK” and let’s talk about it!

🏃‍♂️ Kids develop core strength naturally without “exercising”.

👶 Tapping into how kids develop core strength can help you learn to stabilize your core. The more stabile your core the less chance of back pain.

📍 When you have been in pain, your normal movement patterns get disrupted. So acting like kid just may be the way for you to improve your back pain!

📌 If your back keeps limiting what you can do with your kids, DM me the word CORE and let’s talk about how to rebuild it.

That moment right before you bend over, when you think “is this when my back locks up?”

🤔 If your back kicks on during a pelvic tilt while you’re lying down, it’s not going to magically behave when you bend over.

‼️ Pelvic tilts are usually taught on your back, and for a lot of people with back pain, that’s not getting the job done.

🙄 Flipping onto your stomach makes it easier for a lot of people to feel the front of the core working without the back taking over.

💡 The goal is teaching your body how to move better, not drilling what it already struggles with.

🛟Save this for the next time you feel that tightness coming on.

Who said deadlifting was bad for back?

I’ve had a really bad disc herniation at L5/S1 in the past. I can tell you my back is now as strong as it has ever been.

The lesson I learned: limiting beliefs do just that. They limit you.

Ask yourself this: what’s stopping you from reaching your goals? Figure that out and address it!
