Even the seats have a story. 🎭❤️

As SEA built its first permanent New York theater, seats from P.S. 160 were restored for a new audience. In 1999, SEA @ Los Kabayitos opened at The Clemente. In 2011, a larger theater made room for the next chapter. ✨🏛️

Every chapter began with people helping theater happen. Celebrate that history with us at Teatro SEA’s 40th Anniversary Gala! 🎉🎂

📅 October 8, 2026 · 6–10 PM
📍 Trinity Commons, NYC

✨ Before there was a stage in New York, there was a handwritten invitation in Vega Baja. ✍️🎭

In 1985, 142 people came to the first open auditions. From that beginning, Teatro SEA grew through the work of artists, educators, and a community ready to create together. ❤️

Now, the invitation is yours. 📨✨ Join us for Teatro SEA’s 40th Anniversary Gala and celebrate four decades of stories, art, education, and community.

What’s your favorite puppet? 👀🎭

Ours is Pinocchio. ❤️

But before the lights, the stage, and the applause, there was a drawing—and artists imagining everything he could become.

Pinocho’s first stage? A workbench. ✏️

From shaping his face to adding color, @jlopezartaistudio and finally bringing him to life through movement, every detail is part of the creative process behind our Pinocho at Teatro SEA.

The next time you watch him onstage, look at the hands, too. There’s a whole story in them. ❤️

Send this to someone who loves seeing how things are made. taken in Teatro SEA by @drmanuelmoran

From a simple sketch on paper to a living, breathing character on stage. ✨🪵

For Teatro SEA’s Viva Pinocho, every detail of the puppet was created with care, imagination, and an incredible love for the art of puppetry.

Created by the talented José López @jlopezartaistudio , Pinocho takes shape piece by piece — from the first drawing to his face, his tiny details, and the hands that bring him to life. 🎭❤️

Because sometimes, the magic of theatre begins long before the curtain opens. It begins with an idea, a pair of hands, and a character waiting to be born.

Take a closer look at how Pinocho came to life. ✨ taken in Teatro SEA by @drmanuelmoran

Even in New York, you don’t see this every day. 🦬

A herd of life-size buffalo puppets moving through Manhattan. Poetry in the open air. Live rhythms drawing people closer.

At Park Place Plaza, Teatro SEA joined Nuyorican Poets Café for Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi, a public art celebration inspired by the buffalo’s return from near extinction and a shared hope for healing.

To the artists who shared their voices, the neighbors who stopped to listen, and everyone who walked with the herd: thank you for being part of this moment. ❤️

Presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Walk Productions & KBH Arts.

Which moment would have made YOU stop? Tell us below. 👇
Share this with your NYC arts partner and follow @teatrosea for what’s next.
