POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

For those of you not on my newsletter, I wanted to share the video we just sent out.

It’s about why CD13 looks the way it does, why ideology isn’t getting our trash picked up, and how political entrepreneurship can help us clean up our streets, support small businesses, and get creative about this district again.

Huge thank you to CD13 neighbor Keith Johnson for the powerful photos in here and for keeping such a close eye on our neighborhoods. @keithjohnson500

If this vision for LA resonates with you, please watch, share, and tap the link in bio to chip in. Every dollar is matched 6:1 by the City if you’re in the City of LA

I’m not dropping a lot of videos for the new venture on this feed so please follow @modernlearnlab for more updates or the tiktok channel @dylankendall_la

but I will leave this here ⬆️ because a lot of the people I know who were part of the magic of Hollywood Arts are on this feed 🙌

NOW MY SERMON

What shocks me *the most* about what the world is turning into these days is how much we have embraced hatred … boy oh boy, our hatred is on social media steroids

Not only do we hate Jews and Muslims and people who have different skin colors but we hate people who live outside 🤦‍♀️

We have lost our humanity.

And one thing I loved about leading Hollywood Arts was that the arts really do bring people back together, both our students and the people who supported us.

If you are as upset as I am about how broken we are becoming, and you see, as I do, that the arts heal our communities and our own hearts — along with providing some very critical thinking skills, and workforce readiness… then I’ll hope you’ll say hello 👋

And side talk? Stop hating on the arts … turn on your favorite song right now and check out how you feel. The arts are physiologically connected to our hormones and our brain. #science

It’s been a busy couple of weeks - co-hosting events for city Attorney candidate John McKinney and state Senator candidate Sara Hernandez, both of whom I’m endorsing and both of whom I hope you all seriously consider as the best candidates to act on our behalf in government.

Last night at the Skirball, Jewish Federation Los Angeles hosted a forum with both candidates for mayor. As a Jewish Angeleno, I came away clear about who I’m with. I’m with Karen Bass.

Asked whether “genocide” is the right word for what’s happening in Gaza, Mayor Bass said no.

Councilmember Raman stood by the word genocide, called BDS “a legitimate form of peaceful protest,” and defended sitting down with Hasan Piker, a streamer who has said hateful things about Jews.

The mayor sets the tone for an entire city. Right now, Jewish families here are checking the security at their synagogues and schools. We need a mayor who lowers the temperature, not one who raises it.

Looking for something to do on the 4th or the 5th? With not a lot of new energy in the mayoral field this cycle, the City Attorney and State Senate races are looking like where the real stakes are.

On the 4th, I’m co-hosting a meet & greet for Sara Hernandez, running for State Senate District 26 — which covers a lot of the same ground as the CD13 race I ran last cycle.

Then on the 5th, I’m co-hosting an event for John McKinney for City Attorney.

If you’re interested in attending either (or both!), DM me or shoot me an email.

I also send out political events like these on my Grow Hollywood newsletter — if you’re not subscribed, I sometimes say interesting things about the city I love.

I keep coming back to this. People need purpose and meaning. Without it things come apart. But in all of our systems building, we never discuss purpose and meaning. That’s a mistake. Stay tuned, join the audience, ➡️ looks like end of January / February 2027 for the Hollywood premiere of Time Alone, a two person show about incarceration, loss, and human connection.

And if you want to get involved or learn more DM me … #hollywood #homeboy @defy_ventures @homeboy_art_academy @richardcabralofficial @anthony.gilardi.22 @the_montalbantheatre taken in Hollywood, California by @dylan_kendall

I wanted to share my thoughts and my endorsement in the other State Senate race that overlaps Council District 13.
I’m proud to support Brian Goldsmith for State Senate District 24. I recently brought Brian together with 10 Hollywood property owners and local stakeholders for lunch so he could hear directly about the challenges and opportunities facing Hollywood.

Brian immediately understood how important Hollywood is — not only to our neighborhood, but as a cultural and economic engine for Los Angeles, California, and the country. I look forward to working with him to advance a stronger future for Hollywood and Council District 13.

I wanted to share my thoughts and my endorsement in the State Senate race that overlaps much of Council District 13.

I’m proud to support Sara Hernandez for State Senate District 26. Sara brings real experience as an educator, housing and land-use attorney, and trustee on the Los Angeles Community College District Board.

State Senate races matter because so many policies affecting our neighborhoods — and what City Hall is able to do — are set in Sacramento. I look forward to working with Sara on the issues that matter to our communities.

Meeting one, in the books! So grateful to bring two incredible re-entry organizations, Defy Ventures and Homeboy Art Academy, together to expand the two person show: Time Alone’s reach — into prisons, into post-release life, and out to the public. Coming late January to a Hollywood theatre so follow along for more information. 🎭
