---

When I was studying translation, I thought the job was mainly about languages.
And yes, languages are still the foundation.
But today's market requires much more.

Over the last few months, I started training in Copywriting and SEO because I realised something important: a translation can be flawless, but if the content never reaches the right audience, part of its impact is lost.

I've also learned that AI is not the enemy, that specialisation matters and that more and more translators are working in hybrid environments where language, technology and strategy intersect.

Translation is evolving.

And those who adapt will have more opportunities.

_____

On 29 April, we commemorate the birth of Alejandra Pizarnik, one of the most distinctive voices in Argentine literature.

Her writing is not straightforward.
It works with silence, fragmentation and what remains unsaid.

This raises an interesting question from a translation perspective:

how do you translate what is not explicitly stated?

Translating poetry is not just about transferring words from one language to another.
It involves interpretation, reconstruction and choices that shape meaning.

Because not every text is meant to be explained.
Some, like Pizarnik’s, are meant to be felt.

📚 Have you read her work or would you like to?

On 23 April, Día de Sant Jordi is celebrated — a day where books and roses take centre stage.

But it is also a meaningful date for those who work with language.

On this day, Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare both passed away — two authors who shaped literature in their respective languages.

And between those languages, there is a bridge: translation.

Through translation, stories can travel, evolve and reach new audiences.

Because translation is not just about changing words.
It is about keeping stories alive in another language.

____

There’s something that isn’t always discussed when studying translation:
in real work, not everything follows the “textbook” rules.

Sometimes clients have their own style guides.
And that means making decisions that, in another context, we might approach differently.

For example:
using English-style capitalisation in a Spanish text,
or writing numbers with commas instead of full stops.

Is it right or wrong?

It depends on the project.

Because translation is not just about applying rules.
It’s also about adapting to context, client needs and editorial decisions.

And that balance is a big part of real-world translation work.

💬 Has this ever happened to you?

2 April is a day of remembrance in Argentina.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on language.

Because even something as simple as a name carries history.

Malvinas or Falklands?

The words we choose are not neutral.
They reflect context, identity and different ways of understanding the world.

From a translation perspective, working with language also means recognising that weight.

Choosing a word is not always just a linguistic decision.
Sometimes, it is also a cultural one.

On a personal level, there is also an emotional dimension to these choices:
for me, they will always be the Malvinas Islands.🇦🇷

When we think about translation, we often associate it with technical texts, books or digital content.

But there is another kind of translation as well.

The one that works with testimonies, archives and historical memory.

In these cases, every decision matters.

Because language is never neutral:
it shapes meaning, conveys versions of events and preserves voices.

Translation is not just about transferring words from one language to another.
It is also a way of ensuring that certain stories continue to be read, understood and remembered.

And in that process, accuracy and responsibility are essential.

Because remembering is also a way of protecting what should never happen again.

No dejamos de escribir bien.
Aprendimos a escribir distinto.

____

We didn’t forget how to write.
We learned how to write differently.

Digital language forced us to unlearn rigid rules, neutral punctuation and the idea that tone doesn’t matter.

As a translator, understanding this is no longer optional.

💬 What rule did you have to unlearn?

____

If you’ve ever thought about working with publishing houses, you’ve probably wondered one thing:

What do editors actually look for in a translation test?

Beyond language skills, publishers are interested in something deeper:
your ability to interpret, make decisions and write naturally in the target language.

A strong translation test shows text comprehension, linguistic judgement and attention to detail.

In other words, they are not only assessing whether you can translate words.
They want to see how you think as a translator.

Save this post if you might face a translation test in the future.

💬 Question:
Have you ever completed a translation test for a publisher?

Si tradujéramos literalmente “How many pairs are three boots?”, el sentido se pierde completamente.

____

Technical translation mistakes can ruin even the strongest piece of content. Translation isn’t just about words — it’s about consistency, accuracy and proper cultural adaptation.

In this carousel, I highlight the most common issues:
-Lack of proofreading
-Inconsistent terminology
-Poor cultural adaptation
-Formatting errors
-Incorrect use of capitalisation
-Relying solely on AI

A good text isn’t ruined by one single mistake — it’s ruined by the accumulation of them.
Quality translation protects your brand credibility and professional reputation.

Are your translations truly communicating what you intend?
