If you would’ve told me my life would be like this 4 years ago I would be in disbelief.

Morehouse, you took a little boy who was scared of the world and empowered him to set it ablaze. You showed me that my destiny stretched far beyond my project window — that the world needed me. And in that truth, the world required more of me.

Thank you for making me a man I could be proud of. Thank you for teaching me to uphold the light. Thank you for breaking generational curses.

I made my neighborhood proud, my mom proud and more importantly I made myself proud.

Blueprint hosts New York fashion week model boot camp mixer! On a college campus where fashion can sometimes feel like an afterthought, Blueprint Fashion Organization is creating its own space for it.
Founded at the University at Buffalo in April 2023, Blueprint, also known as UB Blueprint, began as a student project before growing into an independent creative collective. Today, it brings together models, designers, photographers, stylists, entrepreneurs and other creatives, creating opportunities for students to enter rooms that might otherwise feel out of reach.
For Samuel Agorioge, Blueprint’s co-founder and chief operating officer, that sense of accessibility is at the heart of the organization.

One of the longest-running and most historic rivalries in HBCU football is headed to an even bigger stage on Sept. 5.

Morehouse College will face off against Clark Atlanta University in the inaugural Labor Day Classic, honoring both schools’ legacies and birthing new traditions.

For decades, the matchup affectionately known as the Big Cat Classic served as the regular-season finale for both teams, capping a rivalry that dates back to 1900.

Jerry Freeman, one of the event’s organizers, believes that by moving the game toward the beginning of the season, the “opening season energy” will set the tone for the remainder of the year by keeping fans engaged.

“It will build anticipation, [fans] will get that energy for those first games, and by moving it to Labor Day weekend, which is a huge weekend in Atlanta with a lot of activity and a lot of people in town, it just becomes something special,” Freeman said.

For Elijah Megginson, mobility shapes opportunity.

He grew up riding the train in Bed-Stuy, where public transit connected him to people and places across New York City. At Morehouse, he encountered something different: warnings about the West End and riding MARTA.

Then the World Cup showed him another side of MARTA. He saw some of his fastest arrival times all summer, ambassadors helping riders navigate stations and people connecting with each other on the train.

His question: Why should MARTA only feel this way when the world is watching?

Fulton County is investing in the next generation of writers.

With a $25,000 county grant, “Write Now” is giving children ages 8-18 a free space to sharpen their writing, explore different forms of storytelling and learn from professional creatives. At the end of the two-month program, each participant will create a written work that will be published in a group anthology.

For program creator Tamika Jamison, the work is also about helping young people find their voices and giving them a safe space to express themselves.

“It’s now more important than ever that we start putting down our experiences.”

When hundreds of people packed Barrio BX for its viral Bad Bunny watch party earlier this year, the moment seemed to happen overnight. But for co-founder Tony Martinez, the attention was years in the making — built through decades of community relationships and a vision of creating a home for Nuyorican culture in the Bronx.

Located in Castle Hill, the restaurant grew out of the uncertain circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. Six years later, it has cemented itself among residents as one of the staple restaurants in the Bronx.
“I always remember one guest coming in, and he was like, ‘We can’t let this place fail,’” Martinez said.

@mycollegetours now takes over 500 students per semester on tours of various colleges around the nation. It’s meaningful, worthwhile, community based work. Grateful to take part in the Abney Family business.
