Oh Romeo… when you lay in the sun, what do you think about?

Through the appropriation and reinterpretation of images uploaded online to forums of reptile owners, I worked on the blurred line between affection and exploitation. This tension appears in the physical restraint of animals for the sake of a photograph, or in placing them in unnatural contexts. Fantasies of love are projected onto the animal, with an expectation of reciprocated affection.
The book features recurring posts from a woman in a Facebook group for lizard owners. Her messages romanticize the daily life of her bearded dragon, Romeo, elevating him to the status of a lover.

Project developed during the Photobook course in @ecal_photography, taught by @brunoceschel and @nicolaspolli
