Diploma Projects 26 –Through My Hands, Broken into Fingers by 2026 alumna @elisa.hampe 📱

“Through My Hands, Broken into Fingers is a photographic series addressing the detachment from reality through screens, from a digitally native perspective. The artist constructed painterly images by capturing objects, bodies, and spaces through photogrammetric scans made with a smartphone, and reassembling them into complex scenes using a 3D software. The resulting images depict exhausted figures suspended in states of waiting and immobility. Through the scanning process, surfaces and textures are transformed: blankets lose their softness and become rigid shells, bodies appear hollow and fragile, and familiar interiors collapse into unstable and claustrophobic environments. Alongside the wall-based images, a sculpture in printed aluminium reintroduces the mediated body back into physical space. “

ᴛʜᴇ ᴇᴀʀᴛʜ ʜᴏʟᴅꜱ ᴛɪᴍᴇ for @de_bethune

With the help of The Department of Earth Sciences and focusTerra at @ethzurich I was able to select, analyse and machine several mineral specimens to prototype the DB Kind of Two watch dial. Each specimen dates back to the formation of the Swiss Alps and beyond.

Thin Sections are typically used to assess geological specimens under a microscope, made of just 30 microns / 0.03mm of rock mounted on glass. The production methodology for the watch dial borrows from this technique, but in order to preserve the specimen’s natural texture and strength while achieving transparency, these thin sections are cut to about 0.7mm thick and sandblast finished 🌀

ᴛʜᴇ ᴇᴀʀᴛʜ ʜᴏʟᴅꜱ ᴛɪᴍᴇ

In 2024 I began working on a collaboration with independent Swiss watch manufacturer @de_bethune to develop an interactive watch face using light and mechanical movement for the DB Kind of Two GMT.

The backside of this fully reversible watch tells a geological story, deliberately upturning the starry sky to shift the wearer’s perspective to what lies beneath them.

In its static mode, the face appears as solid rock. When activated, light and mechanical rotation initiate a meditation on how the earth holds time and tells time.

The distinctive textures of the backlit stone come to life with an underlaid moiré pattern to create the effect of tunneling deeper through layers of earth.

The concept takes cues from the illustrated adventure novels of Jules Verner (1828-1905), the works of Heinz Mack, Takahiro Kurashima and technologies of the mechanical age such as magic lanterns and chromatropes.

L/T Stool

Lightweight alternative to traditional solid wood seating. L/T is made primarily from cellulose-based materials and is largely composed of air. Thin wooden ribs form a sturdy core structure - similar to airplane wings, which is enclosed in cardboard laminated with a wood veneer. The stool can be disassembled and flat-packed, making it easy to transport for shipping or moving.

[Editorial/Artist publication] Existing between autotheory and artbook, “Nanny,” by Olive B. Godlee is a study of the triangulation between the mother, the child, and the nanny. With a text accompanied by graphite renditions of WhatsApp exchanges between mother-worker and mother-employer, this second edition is self-published in collaboration with @lina________kaltenberg .

Artworks, narrative writing, and field research find form in four formal categories: main text, appendix, uninterrupted images, and interfering detail image collages. A rubber band wrapped tightly around the spine holds everything in place. In between chapters, the graphite drawings are printed on semi-transparent paper, which function as “gallery moments” — giving breathing room to the artwork while referencing transference, memory, and a superimposed position. Due to the binding technique employed, the other half of this semi-transparent appears, as if mirrored, later in the book; here, detail images are scattered, overlapping the text, interacting with the words. These two methods of display function differently, while following the same rule: an image never exists on the same surface as the writing. This intentional separation allows for a complication in the conversation between image and text, and a crossing of a threshold, functioning as a material exploration of the theories explored in “Nanny.” The cover design, screenprinted on raw cut linen paper, echoes the original materiality of the drawings, while simultaneously referencing the process of image manipulation and reproduction. Each alteration shapes, reactivates and manipulates the original moment captured in the original reference photos. This book becomes an extension of this process.

Una serata fatta di incontri e attraversamenti, in cui le pratiche visive di @elisa.hampe e @_stefanostoppa hanno dato vita ad uno spazio sospeso tra visione e realtà.

Grazie a tutte le persone che hanno condiviso con noi questo momento, e agli artisti per aver aperto con sensibilità, cura e intensità questo nuovo capitolo.

✨ No Drama-Update ✨

Thanks to the support of @bernerdesignstiftung, I was able to further develop the No Drama series.
The meticulously hand-blown glass vases are produced by @niesenglass_switzerland. Characterized by their distinctive bases, they convey a sense of stability – no tipping over, no drama.
Now with even bigger feet.
