A black box for Bill Viola, a stage for Sappho.

In Rome's Colosseum Archaeological Park, @alvisikirimoto has designed two exhibitions for Electa. In the Church of Santa Maria Antiqua, a warm dark grey volume with an open front houses Bill Viola's The Greeting. Inside, walls and ceiling are entirely black, leaving only image and sound. At the Uccelliere Farnesiane, Saffo – Lo spirito della poesia turns walled-up openings into surfaces for projections of water, sky and moon, with finds held away from the walls like presences suspended in space.

The Greeting di Bill Viola. Omaggio a Pontormo
Church of Santa Maria Antiqua, until 6 February 2027

In the heart of Rome, a former 16-sqm jewellery shop has been transformed into a home.

A project by @arcfen_architettura in which the small footprint is not a limitation, but the very starting point of the design.

The high cross vault, the black steel of the bookcase, a unifying element throughout the space, the continuity of the flooring, and the light create a sequence of solids and voids, thresholds and perspectives.

Verticality brings together the memory of the former shop and a new dimension of living.

Photographing this space meant looking for architecture in the details, in the proportions, in the viewpoints, in the light moving through the space, and in the traces of time.

In Rome, @02astudio transforms a 1960s apartment through the tension between raw clay walls and a glossy red volume that cuts through the hallway. Casa Barro refuses reconciliation. Its contrasts hold the building up.

Nestled in the hills of Abruzzo, Ettore Spalletti’s studio nurtures a silent dialogue between light, color, and matter.

“The works rested for weeks or even months before leaving the studio and going out into the world.” - From a recollection of Ettore Spalletti written by Ludovico Pratesi, Artribune, October 13, 2019.

“I miei colori vengono dal cielo, dalle albe sul mare, dalle nuvole, dall’aria tersa delle mattine di primavera”. Ettore Spalletti

September.

September has always been the month of the future for me. After a break, I can look back at what has happened with a little more distance: understand what went well, where I went wrong, put things back in order and try to do better.

I’m growing alongside my studio, and my studio is growing with me. New people, new clients, new ways of working. New languages and new trends to understand and sometimes embrace, without feeling the need to chase everything that comes along.

I find myself doing far more than I ever imagined when I decided to become a photographer. Some of it I enjoy, some of it decidedly less so. Over the years, I’ve learned above all to find solutions when something gets complicated, even when projects take a different direction from the one I had imagined, and to see them through.

I think of myself as a craftsperson rather than an artist. At least for now. I work with people, with their ideas and their needs. My job is to listen to them, interpret them and translate them through my own way of seeing.

This September, this is where I’m starting again: figuring out how to let the studio grow without taking space away from photography. taken in Via Cairoli Roma by @ellerstudio

“Ponza is a world unto itself: private, stunning, aloof, wary, and never predictable. Amidst prickly pears, bougainvillea and lush broom, I lose myself in the beauty of its sunsets and find my earthly paradise.” That is how poet Eugenio Montale described it.
And it’s here, on this tiny island in the Pontine archipelago, that roman architect Fabrizio Miccò (@fma_architetto) has created a Mediterranean oasis characterized by nautical-inspired elements and industrial-style interiors.

Can a 40-square-metre downsize actually make a home feel bigger? In Rome's Quartiere delle Vittorie, one renovation proves it can be done.

When architects transformed a 180 sqm apartment into a 140 sqm home, the real challenge wasn't the smaller footprint—it was preserving a lifetime's worth of art, antiques, and family history within it. Their solution, aptly named A Dialogue Between Eras, doesn't hide the past. It celebrates it.

Original 1920s concrete beams and columns—relics from Rome's shift from masonry to reinforced concrete—are left exposed like sculpture. Reclaimed cementine tiles meet modern parquet underfoot. Restored Liberty-style stained glass converses with a brand-new architect-designed panel across the room. Even a deep black kitchen and a dramatic velvet curtain work quietly to let the family's collected treasures take centre stage.

The result is a home where structural memory and contemporary design don't just coexist—they collaborate.

After being forgotten for over fifty years, Villa Finocchiaro — a house with a striking sculptural character, suspended between organicism and Space Age imagery, designed in 1973 by Giuseppe Fanfoni and Maurizio Lo Castro in Linguaglossa (Catania) on the slopes of Etna — has now been restored, at the behest of its new owner, in faithful adherence to the original design.
The villa defies easy definition: its organic volumes seem to embrace the site’s topography while simultaneously emerging powerfully from the landscape, aided by their distinctive color. They evoke a primitive dwelling — almost a maternal womb — yet also bear a striking resemblance to the futuristic experiments of that era, which inspired architects (particularly French and American ones) to dream of living in a “bubble” . The structure incorporates vegetation via iron supports for climbing plants while simultaneously showcasing innovative construction technologies.
