EKA TOP 200 EMO ALBUMS OF ALL TIME IS AVAILABLE NOW!

GO TO EMOKIDSANONYMOUS.COM TO SEE THE FULL LIST PLUS ALBUM WRITE-UPS, FUN FACTS, A LIST OF THE CONTRIBUTORS PLUS AN HONORABLE MENTION SECTION WITH 50 MORE ALBUMS LISTED!

We sent a form to over 300 people asking them their top 10 emo albums. No rules, no parameters. Just whatever emo means to you. After 139 different responses and 575 albums nominated, I’m not quite sure anyone agrees on what emo means. That’s kinda what makes this all so fun though, right?

As for scoring, i used the rank choice voting style. If an album was first on someone’s list, it received 10 points. If an album was tenth, it received 1 point. You get the idea. They were also free to list any honorable mentions they may have, which were worth half a point.

The list has a little bit of everything. Midwest emo, mall emo,!dc emotional hardcore, diy and a pile of albums that are straight up objectively not emo (very minimal screamo though).#
Although I did my absolute best to get the form in an equal amount of hands for every wave and era of emo, there is admittedly a heavy recency bias.

Thank you to everyone who participated, especially those of you who contributed write-ups. Thank you to Phil from @rockforinitiative for making the list come to life with the coolest website we could have ever imagined. Thank you to @magicfrog301 for making the graphics. Thank you @ladeerspute for the inspiration (you were right) and of course thank you @amazingamanda_emokidsanon and @catherinezeta_bones for putting up with me and enabling my dumb ideas.

Most importantly thank you for reading this and checking out the list. The purpose of this project was to celebrate “emo” in whatever way that means to you. I hope everyone finds a few new albums they’ve never heard. Lists are bullshit, but sharing music with eachother is fun as fuck.

Anyways, before checking it out drop your predictions in the comments! What’s on YOUR top 10?

Our interview with @jonathandevoto.tapperdan of @thematches is out now! For over 20 years, The Matches have been one of my favorite bands. I have so many beautiful memories of this band. From the first time I saw Chain Me Free on Fuse, to listening to E Von Dahl on the school bus with my friend Trevor, to buying Decomposer at the HMV in west Edmonton mall, this band is very special to me and Jonathan’s story is so relatable and inspiring.

We talk about the bands rise and fall (and rebirth), their recent run of shows and his favorite Matches albums as well as his personal journey with RSD, post “rockstar” life and more.

Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Thank you Jon, this was a personal bucket list interview. by @emokidsanonymous

is Tell All Your Friends the most beloved album of the “mall emo” era? It was recently voted second on our list of the top 200 emo albums of all time. Are you surprised or is it well deserved?

Take This To Your Grave was recently ranked 14th in the EKA Top 200 Emo Albums, but is it even an emo album? Or is it a pop punk album that was a gateway to emo? Do you agree with the ranking y/n? Sorry for all the questions.

full list available at emokidsanonymous.com shoutout @phil_from_napnet for the beautiful website.

Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity was recently ranked third on the EKA top 200 emo albums. Was this too low? Is Clarity the greatest emo album of all time? Scott’s Records thinks so👀

Full episode breaking down the top 200 available now, view the list at emokidsanonymous.com (sorry).
