There are seasons when TRANSFORMATION doesn’t announce itself. It happens in silence. In between exhaustion and renewal. In between the woman I was fighting to become and the one I’m finally allowing myself to be.

For a long time, I chased momentum, rooms, opportunities, validation, and noise. CLARITY came when I let go of CONTROL. When I stopped trying to force my path and gave it back to GOD.
EVOLUTION rarely happens in noise, it happens in stillness, OBEDIENCE, and the quiet spaces where purpose finally catches up to you.

The world sees me as a designer.
But before there was fabric, there was paint.
Before there were collections, there were canvases.
And somewhere along the way, I realized I was being CALLED back to my ROOTS as an artist. To the part of me that created before the world was watching. To the place where expression was pure, emotional, and free.

I no longer create to PROVE anything. Every piece I create carries fragments of my survival, my PURPOSE, and my prayer for a world made softer through ART.

My name is ERIN NESMITH, and I am a Visual ARTIST and Fashion DESIGNER…

After years of creating from two worlds, art and fashion, I realized they were never meant to live apart. This series is the bridge between them. A conversation between who I was, who I became, and who I’m still becoming.

Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer is a six-part reflection on identity, purpose, and creative rebirth.

Each episode peels back another layer of my journey from the early beginnings, the quiet pauses, and the lessons that shaped how I see art, fashion, and myself today.

I’m not reintroducing myself as something new. I’m simply showing you the parts that never stopped existing. The artist that’s always been here, just waiting to speak again.

Welcome to Artist Talks With A Fashion Designer.
Premieres Friday, October 17th.

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 6 “Creating in Survival Mode vs Creating in Peace”

There’s a world of difference between creating to survive and creating to breathe. I’ve lived both.
When you create in survival mode, everything feels urgent. From the pressure, the deadlines, and the noise, but peace changes everything. Peace allows space for vision, for clarity, for God’s voice to move through the work.

Now, when I create, it’s no longer from fear or expectation. It’s from freedom. I paint what I feel. I design what I see. I build from stillness. After years of noise, I’ve finally learned that art isn’t just about survival… it’s about becoming.

Do you create from peace, or from survival?

This marks the end of Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer, and I want to thank everyone who’s listened, shared, and reflected with me over these past weeks. Your support has meant everything.

Until next time! Keep creating, keep healing, and keep BECOMING….

Sharing this Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer series has been its own kind of reflection. Each episode has pulled me back into the parts of my journey that shaped who I am as an artist and designer today. Creating it reminded me of the importance of sharing stories in the first place and why returning to my roots matters.

Thank you to everyone who caught an episode, shared a thought, or simply paused long enough to listen.

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 5 “The Moment I Knew I Had to Paint Again”

There are moments in life when purpose whispers louder than success. I had accomplished everything I once dreamed of from runways, red carpets, recognition. But in the stillness, I could feel something calling me back… the canvas.

Art was never meant to be separate from my fashion; it was always meant to complete it. Through prayer, reflection, and surrender, I realized that my breakthrough wasn’t somewhere ahead of me, it was waiting in what I’d left behind.

Returning to my art felt like returning home. The paintbrush had been waiting patiently all along.

What’s something you’ve felt called to return to?

Before the first brushstroke there was a pause. I stood in front of the canvas and felt every reason I had walked away and every reason I needed to return.

This was the beginning of finding myself again…

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 4 “When Creating Started to Hurt”

There was a time when creating felt like breathing. It was natural, effortless, and alive. But somewhere along the way, the joy began to fade. What once came from a sacred place of honesty became filtered through expectation, approval, and profit.

I was praised for paintings that didn’t feel like mine, selling work that looked successful on the outside but left me hollow inside. It was a quiet kind of heartbreak to be celebrated for something that didn’t carry your truth.

Pain, though, has a way of becoming a teacher. It forced me to pause and ask: Who am I creating for? And more importantly, why?

What moments made creativity feel heavy instead of healing for you?

I thought creating would always feel like freedom. But sometimes, it started to feel like survival. The paint, the fabric, and the silence all became mirrors.

This was the moment I knew I had to face what creating was really asking of me…

I didn’t transition from art to fashion. I carried one into the other.

Fabric became my new language.
The same energy that once poured through paint now moves through thread, texture, and silhouette.

Every design I create still begins like a painting, with feeling first, then form.

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 3 “How I Found My Voice in Fabric”

Fabric became my new language. The way paint once captured my emotions, fabric began to carry my stories. I started to realize that clothes could hold energy the same raw honesty that once lived in my canvases.

Every cut, every drape, every silhouette became a sentence in a conversation between feeling and form. Through fashion, I learned that expression doesn’t always need words. It can live in the movement of fabric, in the confidence of a woman walking into a room before she even speaks.

Where have you discovered your voice when words weren’t enough?

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 2 “Fashion Wasn’t My First Love — Art Was”

Before the gowns, the sketches, or the fittings, there was just me, a brush, and silence. Art was the language I spoke before I learned how to explain myself. It was how I healed, how I screamed, how I found peace without saying a word. Fashion may have expanded my voice, but art was the heartbeat that started it all.

Even now, every stitch, every fold, every silhouette I design carries the same pulse that once guided my hand across a canvas. Art taught me how to feel before I knew how to speak.

What was your first love, and do you still carry it with you?

🎥 Join me next Friday, 10/31 12:30pm ET, for Episode 3/6: How I Found My Voice in Fabric.

Before fashion, there was paint.
Before collections, there were canvases.

I didn’t choose art, it chose me.
And somehow, every time I try to run from it, I end up right back here covered in color and remembering why I started.
