There are seasons when TRANSFORMATION doesn’t announce itself. It happens in silence. In between exhaustion and renewal. In between the woman I was fighting to become and the one I’m finally allowing myself to be.

For a long time, I chased momentum, rooms, opportunities, validation, and noise. CLARITY came when I let go of CONTROL. When I stopped trying to force my path and gave it back to GOD.
EVOLUTION rarely happens in noise, it happens in stillness, OBEDIENCE, and the quiet spaces where purpose finally catches up to you.

The world sees me as a designer.
But before there was fabric, there was paint.
Before there were collections, there were canvases.
And somewhere along the way, I realized I was being CALLED back to my ROOTS as an artist. To the part of me that created before the world was watching. To the place where expression was pure, emotional, and free.

I no longer create to PROVE anything. Every piece I create carries fragments of my survival, my PURPOSE, and my prayer for a world made softer through ART.

My name is ERIN NESMITH, and I am a Visual ARTIST and Fashion DESIGNER…

After years of creating from two worlds, art and fashion, I realized they were never meant to live apart. This series is the bridge between them. A conversation between who I was, who I became, and who I’m still becoming.

Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer is a six-part reflection on identity, purpose, and creative rebirth.

Each episode peels back another layer of my journey from the early beginnings, the quiet pauses, and the lessons that shaped how I see art, fashion, and myself today.

I’m not reintroducing myself as something new. I’m simply showing you the parts that never stopped existing. The artist that’s always been here, just waiting to speak again.

Welcome to Artist Talks With A Fashion Designer.
Premieres Friday, October 17th.

Nexus started as a concept inspired by the architectural design of the @grandegyptianmuseum and the Great Pyramids of Giza.

An idea of structure and form, translated into something the body could carry.

Working through proportion, material, and placement until the form held without losing the idea behind it.

The gold establishes the structure.
The contrast creates separation across the body.

This is the process behind that translation.

This piece is built around structure.

The gold textured fabric set the direction. The texture reminded me of stepped pyramid geometry, so I built the form around it.

The black contrast was added to break the surface and create depth. The print reads almost like a horizon, a skyline of smaller pyramids running through the piece.

Everything comes back to proportion and placement.
How the volume sits.
How the lines meet.
How the body carries it.

Nothing was added just for effect.

The scale hits you before you even try to understand it.

Not just architecture. A statement.
Decades in the making. Built in direct conversation with the pyramids themselves, where every line, every angle is intentional and aligned.

There’s a precision here that goes beyond design. Monumental, but controlled. Heavy with history, yet exact in execution.

That’s what inspired me. I didn’t come to just visit it. I came to understand it. To study it. To embody it.

This design came from studying that balance.
Translating something this grand into form. Into structure. Onto the body without losing its weight.

2025 demanded more of me than I anticipated.

I moved to New York. I went back to school. I returned to my painting. I kept showing up, even in seasons that required quiet resilience.

Some things unfolded exactly as planned. Others forced me to slow down, recalibrate, and see differently.

It was humbling. Grounding. Clarifying. Expansive.

There were moments that felt like survival. And moments that revealed just how strong I actually am.

I’m stepping into 2026 sharper in my identity, steadier in my discipline, and more rooted in the work I’m here to build. 🥂🍾#keepshowingup by @erinnesmith

Parallel Minds was one of the most powerful installations of Cairo Design Week for me. Created by Mohamed Badr, Ahmed Helmy, Hisham Mahdy, Sherry Raef, Laila Samy, and VDigital working in collaboration with the Egyptian Autistic Society and brought to life by Meuble El Chark, the installation explored creativity through the eyes of autistic artists.

The walls were covered in chair sketches drawn with no rules, no function, no limits. Just pure imagination. Their ideas were later transformed into real chairs, honoring the way they see the world with craftsmanship that matched their boldness.

In the center stood a giant sketchbook inviting the rest of us to unlearn, loosen up, and create without boundaries.

As an artist, that space touched something deep in me, because I truly believe that art is a universal language. It belongs to every mind, every perspective, every way of seeing. It transcends ability, age, culture, and background. And when we let go of structure, something true begins to form.

So I left my own mark in the book. A quiet promise to myself…

2026 will be the year my Cairo seeds blossom….

I’ve been sitting with the kind of creativity that doesn’t rush to be seen. In Heliopolis, the fashion design district of Cairo Design Week, I found myself drawn to the intention behind the work. The craftsmanship. The quiet confidence. The way design can hold both heritage and possibility in the same breath.

Egypt’s designers moved me. Their mastery. Their storytelling. The way they honor material and memory while creating something undeniably modern. There is so much talent here, and it shows in every stitch, every silhouette, every choice made with care.
I let myself move slowly through it all. Observing, absorbing and letting each detail shift the way I see. It reminded me why I create, why I study, and why intention matters. #HeliopolisDesignDistrict #CDW2025 taken in Heliopolis, Al Qahirah, Egypt by @erinnesmith

ARTIST TALK WITH A FASHION DESIGNER | EPISODE 6 “Creating in Survival Mode vs Creating in Peace”

There’s a world of difference between creating to survive and creating to breathe. I’ve lived both.
When you create in survival mode, everything feels urgent. From the pressure, the deadlines, and the noise, but peace changes everything. Peace allows space for vision, for clarity, for God’s voice to move through the work.

Now, when I create, it’s no longer from fear or expectation. It’s from freedom. I paint what I feel. I design what I see. I build from stillness. After years of noise, I’ve finally learned that art isn’t just about survival… it’s about becoming.

Do you create from peace, or from survival?

This marks the end of Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer, and I want to thank everyone who’s listened, shared, and reflected with me over these past weeks. Your support has meant everything.

Until next time! Keep creating, keep healing, and keep BECOMING….

Sharing this Artist Talks with a Fashion Designer series has been its own kind of reflection. Each episode has pulled me back into the parts of my journey that shaped who I am as an artist and designer today. Creating it reminded me of the importance of sharing stories in the first place and why returning to my roots matters.

Thank you to everyone who caught an episode, shared a thought, or simply paused long enough to listen.

The final episode, Artist Talks With a Fashion Designer
Episode 6 “Creating in Survival Mode vs Creating in Peace” is on the way. I am grateful for this chapter and ready for the next one I am about to create. #Erinnesmith #Becoming #FineArtist #Designer by @erinnesmith
