Tennessee, Amendment 1 is on your ballot this November, and we need to talk about what it actually means.

Right now, Tennessee’s Constitution protects the right to bail for most people awaiting trial. Amendment 1 would expand the list of serious offenses for which a judge could deny bail before someone has been convicted.

This raises important questions about public safety, due process, and the rights of people who have been accused but not found guilty.

At The Equity Alliance, we’re making sure our communities have the information they need to understand what’s on the ballot and what these decisions mean.

Memphis City Council members delayed the vote on a proposed moratorium on new data centers tonight.

This means they will return in two weeks, at their next meeting. In the meantime, Memphis wrestles with questions about water, energy, infrastructure, development and the impact these massive facilities could have on surrounding communities.

The people of Memphis deserve to know who makes the decisions, what they decide and what it means for our city.

We’re paying attention, and we’re keeping receipts.
