The joys of giving out stickers from @riverbed.collective’s Decalmania to my friends!

The very best way to start the day ❤️

One of the strangest things about publishing a novel is that, after years of living with the characters in your own head, you suddenly get to see them through someone else’s eyes.

This review of Versions of Us arrived this morning and absolutely made my day. Thank you @erinaihei 🙏

We travelled fourteen hours round-trip just to stay one night, but it was all worth it for A Weekend With @emmapeiyin!

@emmapeiyin is the author of the female-centric historical fiction novel When Sleeping Women Wake and a new member of @hkwips!

WiPS marketing (@erinaihei & @inkenrogue) recently travelled interstate for her events with @riverinareadersfestival.

During Emma’s Friday evening talk, what stood out as a recurring, striking theme was the notion of growing into (and taking ownership of) one’s voice.

We learned that the novel’s first drafts centered a male character, which, if you’ve read the actual book, seems unfathomable. Now the story revolves around its three female leads, showing various ways in which women embody strength. It’s inspiring to know Emma grew into her current voice and female-led storyline.

I draw parallels between this growth and Emma’s transition from saying she ‘got lucky [in the industry]’ to taking ownership of her hard work. Being able to say, ‘Yes, I worked really hard for this!’ is such a shift. Personally, I like to say ‘luck is where preparation meets opportunity,’ in the words of Seneca.

Finally, shoutout to the @riverinareadersfestival team. The moderator, local historian Sam Leah, asks thoughtful, precise, yet exploratory questions. We were greeted with so much warmth, firstly, but, above all, I admire anyone who creates the safety necessary to showcase voices as they are, who platforms people without forcing them to fit a specific role. I could go on and on about the magic at @museumriverina and @waggalibrary that weekend…
