On Friday, we lost Alley Bugs.

We are devastated.

I’m sharing this because many of you have met Alley, or knew of her from our non-stop yapping. Many people say this about their beloved pets, but she was the best girl. Protector, cuddle bug, adventurer, and so resilient. If she met you, she loved you unconditionally.

I want to thank all of you for loving her and allowing her to love you. If you want to remember her adventures, we’re keeping @printersalleydog

Endless gratitude to Parkers Paws @parkerspawsah43 & their team for caring for her over the years (specifically, Dr. K, Dr. Hooper & Dr. G)

And Rod Newman & his team at Canine Rehabilitation of Nashville @caninerehabnashville . When she tore her ACLs almost 7 years ago, and we found out we couldn’t have surgery, Rod helped to strengthen her mobility, the results of which we were often commended on. She always tilted her head when we said Rod’s name, and I will sincerely miss him calling our girl “kiddo” whenever he saw her. His team loved her and took the best care.

Also to Lap of Love @lapofloveveterinaryhospice. We were recommended this service over and over but nothing could have prepared us for how incredibly kind, respectful and loving the experience would be. In many ways, it was the one of the worst days of our lives, but Dr. Bethany H. is truly aGod-send and we are forever grateful. Thank you also to Neisha at Faithful Companion @faithfulcompanionservices. by @essayem

Happy Veteran’s Day to my Dad.

He will probably say he is smiling in this photo but I have seen his real smile and this is not it.

Thank you to all of my friends, family, and colleagues who have so bravely and courageously served. by @essayem

This is 41.
A hard, uneven year.

Some of it nearly broke me, some of it reminded me I’m still here and there’s more than just the space I’m in.

I heard a Maren Morris song today, “I’m still the one who has to choose to carry me through.” I don’t think I could say it better. by @essayem

Spending most Friday mornings with this group from @theexchangerunningcollective has been one of my favorite parts of this (& last) year. Ran two miles in my neighborhood whilst demoing the new Nike Vomero+, concluded with waffles and coffee from @elgatonegro.coffee and it’s not even 8am.

Happy #TomatoArtFest to all who celebrate. 🍅

Like a lot of big sisters, I think my advice is excellent.

Not because I know everything—but because I like to think I’ve paid attention. And I’ve earned most of it the long way.

In honor of my sister’s birthday (@andwefell ), I pulled together a list of the things I’d want her to hear.

Not the glossy kind of advice. The kind that’s actually held up under real pressure—burnout, comparison, ambition, self-doubt, and whatever your version of “off track” feels like right now.

In part, I wrote this because—even though our lives are already wildly different, and probably always will be—I still want her to benefit from me having gone first.

From knowing that crying in your car on your lunch break is a thing that might happen.

That something you worked incredibly hard for might suddenly feel useless.

That you’ll make decisions you regret—sometimes more than once.

We all do.

Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard, I’ve had to hear ten times before it stuck. Sometimes twenty.

And yes, we’re all here for work-related things.

But we’re also here as people.

And in this strange moment where there’s a push to make work more human—while also stripping a lot of the humanity out of it—I figured a little big sister energy wouldn’t hurt.

If you didn’t realize you needed some today, here it is.

Happy Birthday, Sarah!
