YouTube just doubled the watch hours you need to get monetized.

It’s now 8,000 watch time hours (starting February 1st) It used to be 4,000 hours.

I waited before sharing anything, because I wanted to see what the responses would be.

The responses have been pretty much what I expected: “this is pointless,” “why even bother anymore,” a lot of frustrated creators ready to abandon their channels entirely.

If your entire strategy was to hit YouTube’s threshold and let the ad checks roll in, that strategy was always fragile.

You were never supposed to be building toward YouTube’s payout.

Google ad revenue was always the wrong finish line... I say it’s “icing” on the cake.

It’s controlled by a platform that can change the rules whenever it wants (like it just did).

If you’ve been building a channel that attracts the right people for your actual offer, nothing has changed for you.

Rather than focusing on Google ad revenue, focus on revenue from clients and your channel will bring those right people to you 💎 by @essetinomedia
