POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Recently discovered this series called โ€˜The Alternative Pickโ€™ from the 90s - it was basically like the cool, alternative sourcebook for illustration, photography, any creative industry you needed for your new music video, promo, commercial, etc. - one of the coolest things I found is that there was even a niche industry of โ€˜custom art tvโ€™sโ€™, mainly dominated by this artist, John Wells. This reminded me that there totally were so many art tvโ€™s in 90s music videos - esp retro sets with the singer at an extreme angle for that extra distorted, blown out, grungy look. Iโ€™d hope to be able to track down the tvs shown here, but unfortunately it will be a bit more difficult, as John passed away in 2024 by @evancollins90

Illustrations by Glenn Mitsui / Studio MD found in โ€˜Showcase Stock - Premier Illustration: Volume 1โ€™ (1998) Love this style, a sorta โ€˜digital/cyber corporate cubist surrealismโ€™ - illustrators really went wild with the new availability of gradient fill tools in the 90s - utopian scholastic vibes as well with all the imagery collaged together by @evancollins90

Elviraโ€™s โ€˜caveโ€™ room (1990s) โ€œI call this room โ€œthe cave.โ€ Pretty creative, bub? Itโ€™s the one room in my house where I can bang out and really be me. Itโ€™s dark, creepy and the waterfall outside the window gives it that damp, musty feeling I crave. And talk about impressing your friends... just break out the olโ€™ shackles and itโ€™s a party!โ€ - Elvira Scanned from the book, Havens: Celebritiesโ€™ Favorite Rooms by Michael McCreary (1995) Found in a really fun series called Havens (I & II), a collection of celebrity homes in the 90s, published to support AIDS research. Style-wise itโ€™s pretty much the perfect example of a whimsigoth interior by @evancollins90
