This Saturday we present for the first time “Mbuchi: Turtle Words. On forbidden mother tongues”, and I cannot be happier!

Published by @printroom_rtm , this book is a very intimate glimpse into years of personal research about language, mother tongues and anticolonial transmission practices through different generations and geographies. “Mbuchi: Turtle Words” explores the human as a turtle, the turtle as a human and the environment that intertwines Binnizá cosmologies with poetry, dreams, lullabies, migration policies, food, children books, family wounds, language resistance and its modes of becoming in an epistolary narrative.

The book presents the text in-itself as a curatorial realm, by collaborating with Valentina Jager @vjgrrr -who joins with translation as an artistic practice- and Alan Sierra @alansierra , whose illustrations are a lyrical interpretation of the reading. It is designed by Dongyoung Lee @dongyoungleee and printed by PrintRoom team.

I feel enormous gratitude to Valentina and Alan for their generous presence, I cannot feel but honored to share the space of language and friendship with them. And I’m deeply thankful with Karin for the complicity, conversations and the gezelligness of a Room full of prints and books.

Applications to our upcoming MA 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 are open until April 1!

Led by curator and writer Eva Posas, 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 is a two-year temporary MA offered by If I Can’t Dance in collaboration with the Sandberg Instituut. The programme intersects Eva's research ‘Phantom Languages’ within the context of Nations Without State with the work done by If I Can’t Dance over the past 20 years in the field of performance and performativity.

The programme aims to explore the rich and interdisciplinary field of performance not as an outcome but as a research methodology. The entry point to this field is the phantoms that live in and outside us, bringing forth experiences of repression and erasure, either on an individual or collective level. Embodying the interplay between body and environment, these phantoms function like scores; they create a threshold, a lifeline between the verbal and the nonverbal, the material and the immaterial.

The MA aims to equip participants with tools to engage with the unseen, unacknowledged, and erased, yet still here, addressing the impalpable and yet present set of actions and knowledge inscribed within bodies, their genealogies, behaviours and relations. In doing so, they will be supported by an outstanding group of artists, thinkers, and practitioners, working at the undisciplined, de-genred intersections of performance studies, heart epistemologies, anti-colonial, and anti-racist thinking, lived experience, situated knowledge, critical theories, and DIY technologies.

Next to Eva Posas and If I Can’t Dance curators Anik Fournier & Sara Giannini, we are thrilled to announce that Noor Abed, Lynnée Denise, Venuri Perera, Yin Yin Wong, and Amy Suo Wu have joined the programme.

For years, @alansierra and I have been sharing long conversations regarding lineage, upbringing, orphanage, life, death, and the languages in between: what we inherit, what we keep, and what we really treasure despite the circumstances. We had been reading together about motherhood long before I became a mother myself.

Now that Alan and I have been talking about his upcoming show at @peana_ , it is beautiful to see that we’ve traced an invisible line of thinking, reflecting on where we come from and what we want to do with that in our work. A moment we had to expand these dialogues to the space was with “The Great Clothesline,” for the exhibition “Society of Molecules” at the Aalborg Midwife Center from the University Hospital. From March until July 2026, visitors expecting a child could encounter a mural done with red dots spolvero technique, which was also the base for the Mexican muralist movement.

As with most of Alan’s drawings, in “The Great Clothesline,” we see images that could feel simple but symbolize complex feelings and ideas: birds that adopt orphan eggs, baby spiders that eat the mother, or the chain of labor of the lineage that allows us to be here. Some are part of an imagery that, in that vulnerable space of a hospital waiting room, doesn’t need to be clear. In the end, the hope was for it to be a wordless companion, sharing in silence within an inner dialogue with those in the space.

This project was a collaboration with the amazing people of @lim_collective , @ariel_feminisms , and the Aalborg Midwife Center. My gratitude to @ninawoehlk , @ajonssonstudio , Lene, the midwives, and all the viking ghosts that were around.🕸️

At the end of May, we opened the newest edition of Resquicio at @casadellago.unam in Mexico City, featuring artist @gabrielanovoa_ .

Her work addresses the violence and subjugation experienced by feminized bodies, alongside the political and historical oppression in her native El Salvador. Through desire, visionary fiction, poetry, and botany her work emerges as a strategy for intergenerational growth and healing. In “Germino – Gemimos – Germinamos”, Gabriela invokes the tunal. For the Nahua peoples of Central America and México, the tunal symbolizes the vital energy that grants us the capacity to dream, traveling through the night to create deep connections between us all as we sleep.

Through embroidery and painting, Gabriela explores how the tunal resonates among plants and beans species, which gently oxygenate and repair both the earth and our dreams. Grateful with Gaby for sharing this visual and sensual landscape, an exhibition that shares the gentle power of land and women.

There is still time to visit the exhibition at Casa del Lago! Resquicio is possible thanks to the bestest team: @cinthya_gl , @yheypy , @beruz , Geo, @pilar.gardun.o , Andrés, Ejival, Alex, Robert, Irving, Tamara, Lucía Pi, Alejandra, and of course, Gabriela. 🌺🌱🐚

“Ru kuux Toj” is the work by artist @manuelchavajay for the open air exhibition “Haunted by Waters”, organized by @into_nature_drenthe in the North of the Netherlands.

In the area of the “onlanden” roughly translated as the “non-lands”, twelve artists approached these swamps -now a natural reserve- through reciprocity. When Manuel visited the area for the first time and heared about the land claim to the sea, as well as all the tense history of people on the now dutch areas with floodwaters; he decided to give back to the land, to do an offering for the water. “Ru kuux toj” is an offering based on his Mayan Tz’utujil rituals and knowledge.

These pictures are part of the intimate performance he did during the first days of the exhibition, an invitation to touch the soil with the feet, to dance as a form to gratitude.

Photo documentation by @jedidjasmalbil

More pictures and info soon! for now, as a side note, I would like to point out my own tense relation with social media, the scroll, the algorithm and its implicit demand for immediacy. But i will try posting more and trust that we’re still humans beyond the algorithms.

With gratitude to @into_nature_drenthe , @debruijnhilde , Sanne, Nathalie, Ditmar, Marc, @tienke_zijlstra , Arjen, Wessel, Mathieu, Marinus, Jedidja, Jonathan, @davidhabets , Bigu and Manuel. 🍍🍌🍊💛 taken in Groningen, Netherlands by @evaposas

Thank you to everyone who joined us for “nesting” 🪺

“nesting” is a performative reading about the housing situation in the Netherlands, the nest-building practices of local birds, and the characters that inhabit the residual spaces of Fantascope discs, an early precursor to animation. 🦋

nesting was born from the collaboration and shared complicity between @evaposas, @davidhabets , and Bigu, as part of the second session of @mbuchi_house.🏡

Here are some images from the gathering and the animation made live on that occasion.

We felt deeply moved and held by MBUCHI House and by everyone who joined us while enjoying a delicious birria 😋 taken in The Hague, Netherlands by @evaposas
