Our work @landmark.columbus is about people and place.

We’re grateful to @hadleyfruits whose photography documents our work and makes visible the people, experiences, and places at its heart.

Swipe through 👉

1️⃣ @exhibitcolumbus installations become backdrops for everyday public life. A Carousel for Columbus was reinstalled at NexusPark.

2️⃣ Education has been central to LCF's work, creating opportunities for young people to understand design's role in shaping their community.

3️⃣ Lucabe Coffee Company occupies the former Irwin Union Bank branch at Eastbrook Plaza, designed by architect Harry Weese. Landmark Columbus Foundation and others helped preserve and adapt the building, recognized with a 2022 Docomomo Modernism Award.

4️⃣ Visitors gather and swim in a temporary public pool during @exhibitcolumbus Opening Weekend. Pool/Side, by Akima Brackeen, was created for the 2024–25 Exhibit Columbus cycle, Yes And.

5️⃣&6️⃣ The Black Heritage Trail is a self-guided walking tour that explores the history of land usage by Blacks in Columbus, Indiana. The trail officially opened to the public on Juneteenth 2025, with a celebration at the 6th Street Arts Alley.

8️⃣ The annual Our Hospice Concert fills Mill Race Park, framed by Echoes of the Hill, an Exhibit Columbus installation by Studio Zewde. The installation was created for the 2023–24 cycle of @exhibitcolumbus Public by Design.

9️⃣ From gathering spaces to dance parties, @exhibitcolumbus installations become backdrops for everyday public life. InterOculus is permanently installed at Fourth and Washington Streets.

🔟 Chaos, Jean Tinguely’s kinetic sculpture, stands at the center of The Commons in downtown Columbus. Installed in 1974, the monumental work has become an enduring presence in the city’s public life. by @exhibitcolumbus

This past spring, the “Exhibit Columbus: Ten Years of the J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize” exhibition was on display at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art (@nhgca). Swipe through the images to see how the exhibit came to life →

The exhibition featured the best of Hadley Fruits’ Exhibit Columbus images. Each Exhibit Columbus cycle was written about through the lens of a Landmark Columbus Foundation staff member. The writings and images provided new insight and added appreciation for the thought that goes into placemaking efforts.

Thank you to the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art for hosting this exhibition, and thank you to everyone who went to check it out! It was a privilege to look back at the last ten years of Exhibit Columbus 🖼️

This past Saturday, the “Exhibit Columbus: Ten Years of the J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize” exhibition at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art (@nhgca) officially closed. To round out the exhibition, the gallery hosted the Cultural Impact and Civic Pride in Columbus and New Harmony Panel.

Participants included Richard McCoy (@richardmccoy ), Executive Director at Landmark Columbus Foundation; Marsh Davis, Former Indiana Landmarks Executive Director; and Connie Weinzapfel, New Harmony Town Council member and Former Director, Historic New Harmony. The panel took a deep dive into relevant themes, including historic preservation, arts and design for built environments, and the intersection between culture and civic pride.

And we wanted to share what we learned. Use the quiz above to test your knowledge and to see how the data stacks up!
