And eventually, I did.August 7, 2016.I said yes to him.
And that “yes” became the beginning of our relationship.

But really, our story had started a year earlier in 2015, with a WhatsApp group, a shared surname, and two people who simply enjoyed talking to each other. We grew together.

We navigated university life together, created memories, watched each other grow, and slowly built something that became much bigger than the two students who first met through a fresher’s WhatsApp group.

Five years later, in 2021, we got married. ❤️
That same year, we welcomed our first child, our beautiful son, and our love took on a whole new meaning. Then, early this year, our family grew again with the arrival of our beautiful daughter.

From two young people who started talking because they had the same surname, to best friends, partners, husband and wife, and now parents to two beautiful children…

Sometimes I look back and realise how beautiful it is that we didn’t know we were writing a love story while we were living it.

It started with a WhatsApp group. Then a surname. Then endless conversations. Then an unexpected meeting at Awo Cafe. Then Archie. Then one very sleepless night.
Then a yes on August 7, 2016.

And somehow, that one little “yes” became us.
If I could go back to that fresher who walked into Awo Cafe expecting to collect something from someone, I would tell her:

“You have no idea, but the person you’re about to meet is going to become your husband, the father of your children, your partner, and one of the biggest parts of your story.” ❤️

And maybe that’s the sweetest part of our story

We weren’t looking for forever that day. We were simply two young people talking, laughing, getting to know each other… and somehow, we found it.

Here’s to the boy I met in 2015, the man I married, and the beautiful family we’ve built together. I love you baby, Now and forever.

I wasn’t really the going out type, so even though we were both in Ibadan during the holiday, we never actually met in person.

Looking back now, I think that was when I had already started falling for him quietly, slowly, and without even realising it.We just talked. Every. Single. Day.Then school resumed.

I got to OAU before him because freshers resumed earlier. staylites didn’t return until about two weeks later, by which time we freshers had already settled in and been inducted into university life.

So, although I was already in school, he wasn’t.

Then one evening, he called me and said he had sent something for me through someone at Awo Cafe, the reading space in Awo Hall. At the time, it was still within visiting hours, so I went there, expecting to meet whoever he had asked to give me the item.

But instead…

I met him. 🥹
I was shocked. Completely surprised. After weeks of talking every day, here he was, standing right in front of me.

I won’t lie, I was shy. 😂 But there was something so sweet about finally meeting the person whose voice and words had already become so familiar to me.

We weren’t dating yet, but we both knew there was something there. Not long after that, he asked me out.

I can’t remember  if it was the same night he asked me, but I remember one particular night at Archie( Architecture department, this place was our little meeting spot throughout our years at OAU, until life eventually took us off campus)

And when he asked me out, I didn’t say yes immediately. Not because I didn’t like him. I did.

I just didn’t want to rush into anything. So I went back to my hostel that night with my heart doing overtime, and I couldn’t sleep. One of my roommates, who is still one of my very good friends today, saw me sitting outside with the door open and asked what was wrong.

When I told her, it was honestly so funny because I was sitting there thinking about Adam. I had so much on my mind. I liked this boy. I knew I liked him. But saying yes felt like stepping into something I knew could become very important to me. by @familytips___

HOW WE MET ❤️

Our story started in 2015, in the most unexpected way.

I was a fresher, waiting for school to resume, and like most new students, I joined one of those WhatsApp groups created for freshers. These groups were usually filled with staylites (returning university students)who were there to guide the new students through university life. Some genuinely wanted to help, while others were simply there for the vibes, making friends and getting to know the new faces coming into school.

And then there was him.

We became friends, but what really got us talking was something so simple: we had the same surname. 😂

That little coincidence became the beginning of something neither of us knew would eventually become our forever.

He was going into 200 level, while I was preparing to enter university as a fresher. He had come home to Ibadan for the holiday, and coincidentally, I was also from Ibadan. We spent almost the entire break talking. Every day. Sometimes for hours. There was always something to talk about, and somehow, talking to him became a part of my everyday life.

On getting home, I couldn’t help but flashback on how great my day had been with my newly found love. We continued talking and catching up. That led to the beginning of our relationship.

It was a distance relationship and each party would visit once in a while. The relationship lasted up to 3years and it birthed the marriage we are into today.

His introduction was quite simple, well constructed and straight to the point. We both agreed to be friends as we talked on a daily basis sharing gist, joys and laughter.

He kept my company most of the time. As the friendship grew stronger, we decided to meet up. We arranged a date. I lived in Lagos while he lived in Abeokuta. He had to travel down to Lagos to meet up with me. Before then, we were having a distance friendship.

On the day we met, the first thing I noticed was the fact that he looked handsome and put together in his well ironed native attire. He then called me ‘my wife’ ..

Those two words melted my heart as if I’ve been waiting to hear them. Only God knew what he’d summed up in his mind to call me ‘my wife’. We interacted and shared romantic feelings towards each other.

We spent almost the whole day together, watched a movie, had food, shared gist and laughter. Then he and his friend dropped me off at home towards evening time.

HOW WE MET…

It was a warm evening, I was just relaxing in the sitting room when my sister’s fiancé came to visit and he told me one of his very good friends requested my number. I was like how?

Then he told me he’d posted my picture on my birthday and he requested to have my number. I told him no problem he can give out my number to him. In my head, I was picturing who he is, what he looked like and why he picked interest in having my number.

On the other hand, I was hoping he’ll be somebody I’ll be glad to know.
Following that day, he texted me on WhatsApp to introduce himself.

Sometimes, the problem in a family isn’t the absence of love. It’s the absence of healthy communication.

We assume instead of asking.
We withdraw instead of explaining.
We shout instead of listening.
We gossip instead of addressing the person involved.

And somehow, a small misunderstanding becomes a much bigger problem.

Healthy communication isn’t about never disagreeing. It’s about being able to say what you feel, listen to the other person and work through the disagreement without making the relationship the casualty.

Clear communication saves us from a lot of unnecessary hurt.

Which one do you think causes the most family misunderstandings: assumptions, shouting, avoidance, passive aggression or gossip?
