The traditional approach to supporting entrepreneurs often focuses on helping them adapt to existing systems. But what if those systems are part of the problem? In Indonesia, formal bank lending to MSMEs remains below 20% of total loans, with an estimated financing gap exceeding US$130 billion. This raises a bigger question: are we doing enough to prepare businesses for growth, or do we also need to rethink the systems they depend on?

In her opening keynote at KUMPUL Connect for Change Summit 2026, Faye Wongso, Founder and Chairperson of KUMPUL, will draw on her experience in entrepreneurship and the humanitarian and development sectors to examine why isolated interventions often fall short. From fragmented supply chains and limited financial access to disconnected efforts across sectors, she will explore what it takes to connect business growth with social and environmental impact, and why lasting change requires collaboration beyond capacity building alone.

Many growing businesses in Indonesia are not short of ambition, demand, or potential. What often limits their next stage of growth is the gap between where they are today and the access they need to move further.

Indonesia is home to millions of entrepreneurs whose businesses play a major role in the economy, contributing around 61% to GDP and absorbing around 97% of the national workforce. But for businesses in the middle, access to suitable financing, market pathways, mentorship, and strategic networks can still be difficult to reach.

Closing the missing middle gap means redesigning how support flows across different stages of growth, from readiness and capital access to partnerships and long-term guidance. When the ecosystem is built around the real journey of entrepreneurs, more businesses can scale without relying only on existing networks.

We are honored to share that KUMPUL & KUMPUL IMPACT has been awarded Best Facilitator at the ESG Award 2026 by KEHATI for the second consecutive year. This recognition highlights our continued efforts to bring ESG principles into the way we support entrepreneurs, communities, and ecosystem partners across Indonesia.

Over the past year, we have continued building connections between businesses and the resources they need to grow. From 2025 to May 2026, our ESG-aligned initiatives reached more than 10,000 beneficiaries, with 14 initiatives covering inclusive economic growth, climate resilience, and digital equality, alongside seven research publications.

This recognition belongs to the team, partners, and collaborators who continue to make this work possible. We look forward to strengthening these collaborations and creating more pathways for impact-driven solutions, businesses, and communities to grow together.

On 17 June 2026, Faye Wongso, Founder and Chairperson of KUMPUL, led the Executive Forum on Financial Inclusivity: A Case for Capital, Impact, and Welfare at the Asia Economic Summit 2026.

As Southeast Asia attracts growing investment and expands access to financial services, the discussion focused on a critical challenge in the region’s inclusion agenda: the missing middle between access and economic participation.

Across the region, digital infrastructure and payment systems have reached unprecedented scale. Yet for many entrepreneurs and small businesses, access alone has not translated into better opportunities. Many remain unable to access affordable financing, not because they lack potential, but because they lack the economic track record needed to build trust and qualify for credit.

The discussion highlighted how tools such as QRIS can serve as more than payment infrastructure. Transaction data can help create an economic footprint, opening pathways to formal financing and enabling more businesses to participate in the economy.

At the same time, speakers emphasized that infrastructure alone is not enough. Trust, talent development, community support, and collaboration across sectors remain essential to ensuring that access leads to meaningful outcomes.

The forum also raised an important question for policymakers, investors, and ecosystem builders alike: are we measuring access, or are we measuring progress? Ultimately, financial inclusion should not be defined by the number of people reached, but by whether people are able to grow their businesses, improve their livelihoods, and create greater economic security for themselves and their communities.

Faye shared her perspective on what it means to be a “super connector” and why bringing the right people together can open up new ways to work, solve problems, and create change.

For her, building connections is about creating bridges to opportunities and access. When people come together, these connections can open doors to new knowledge, guidance, and opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach.

Through KUMPUL.ID, Faye has helped connect and support more than 120 innovation hubs across 40 cities in Indonesia, creating spaces where founders, creators, and communities can grow together.
