We’ve been working on something behind the scenes, and we’re excited to finally share it with you.

Introducing Navigating the Coaching System — our first online course, coming to the FCN Academy on 9 November.

Over the last 12 years, we’ve connected with coaches from all over the world. Through those conversations, we’ve heard about the challenges that come with coaching — understanding the environment you’re working in, managing relationships, making difficult decisions and finding your way through the system.

This course brings together coaches from different sports and countries to share their experiences, what they’ve learned and how they’ve navigated some of the most difficult jobs in sport.

We’ve brought those conversations together with research and opportunities to reflect on what it means for you and your own coaching environment.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce the coaches involved and share a little of what’s inside.

We can’t wait to bring this to you.

🇰đŸ‡Ș World 800m champion Lilian Odira has called for a change in attitudes towards women coaches after crediting veteran coach Jacinta Muraguri with playing a major role in her success.

Odira, who won the world title in 2025 before adding Commonwealth Games silver, says being coached by a woman has given her a level of understanding that extends beyond performance.

As both an athlete and a mother, she believes Muraguri understands the pressures she faces away from competition and can support her in ways that are deeply relevant to her life.

Odira has now urged the sport to move away from the assumption that only male coaches can produce champions.

Her comments come as Athletics Kenya works to increase the number of women in coaching, aligned with World Athletics’ target for women to make up at least 40% of CECS Level 1 coaches by 2029. #kenya #athletics #femalecoach by @femalecoachingnetwork

đŸ‡ș🇾American teenager Garret Tan produced one of the biggest shocks of the 2026 Badminton World Championships, defeating 🇼🇳India’s Lakshya Sen with an all-women coaching team in his corner.

The 18-year-old world No. 92 beat the 14th-seeded Sen 19-21, 21-19, 21-17 in New Delhi, with childhood coach Paula Lynn and fellow USA player Lauren Lam guiding him courtside.

Their influence went beyond encouragement. Lynn and Lam helped devise the tactical plan to keep Sen away from the front court, slow the pace when required and help Tan maintain his composure under pressure from a partisan home crowd.

Tan, competing at his first World Championships, described the win as a major breakthrough in his young career. #badminton #coachingduo #femalecoach by @femalecoachingnetwork

Kara Lawson is preparing to lead the đŸ‡ș🇾USA Women’s National 🏀Team into the 2026 FIBA World Cup, describing the role as the “No. 1 job in the sport.”

Her journey with USA Basketball spans almost every level.

Lawson won Olympic gold as a player in Beijing in 2008, coached the USA 3x3 women to Olympic gold in Tokyo, and served as an assistant coach during gold-medal campaigns at the 2022 World Cup and Paris 2024.

In 2025, she led a young USA team to an unbeaten 7–0 record and gold at the Women’s AmeriCup.

Now, the Duke University head coach has responsibility for one of the most successful teams in international sport, leading the programme through the 2026 World Cup and towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. #USA #BasketballWorldCup by @femalecoachingnetwork

GAELIC FOOTBALL HAS A CLEAR POST-PLAYING PATH FOR MEN. WOMEN ARE STILL WAITING FOR THEIRS.

A recent article by Dr. Fiona McHale, published on RTÉ Brainstorm, explores what happens to women in Gaelic football when their playing careers come to an end.

While retirement in the men’s game often opens the door to coaching, leadership and other influential roles, that pathway is far less established for women.

The article highlights the huge amount of experience, knowledge and understanding that former players can bring back into the sport — but also the risk of losing that expertise if clear opportunities do not exist.

Creating stronger pathways from playing into coaching and leadership is not simply about increasing representation. It is about ensuring women have the opportunity to help shape the future of the game long after they stop playing.

If Gaelic football wants more women in coaching and leadership, the pathway cannot begin after retirement. It needs to be visible long before it. #GAA #Gaelicfootball #Ireland #femalecoach by @femalecoachingnetwork
