Starting to get organised for next weekend …
On the 17th/18th October I’ll be at the @londonsnowshow with @re_action_collective - offering some repairs alongside chats about keeping outdoor gear in use, mending, repurposing, and #stitchhikes

A little snapshot from @we_are_exiled “Root Cause” exhibition at @themillsfabrica_uk in Kings Cross on Friday last week.
It was refreshing to see repurposing and upcycling presented in such a slick and professional way. It was a great demonstration of how reusing materials that might be deemed ‘waste’ can result in beautiful useful and well made products!

The panel discussion that rounded the day off was also great, with some great takeaways for me to feed into my @utilifolk work as well as my technical apparel design consultancy.

The Summer go-slow part 1
France, Bristol, Wales.
Walking, paddling, stitching, reading, art, swimming and sunsets.
A light sprinkling of work inbetween.
Outside as much as possible.
Lots of family time.

I bought this @berghausofficial jacket from Vinted for a @utilifolk art project.
I deliberately searched for something in ‘satisfactory’ condition as Im conscious that it won’t be useable in the same way once it’s become ‘art’.
I asked some old Berghaus colleagues if they could date it from the labels - the educated guess is it’s maybe 30ish years old!
I have no idea what kind of life it’s had -
A full one out on the hill, or a mostly urban/in the wardrobe existence, I’ve not tested its waterproof credentials and I’m assuming it’s DWR is long gone….but aside some ingrained dirt at the cuffs and a few marks it’s in great condition!
Zips, snaps, velcro all seem to be in good working order. It nolonger has its fleece zip in liner but I’m still impressed.

There are no doubt many similar jackets floating around the second hand market/in the back of people’s wardrobes… what will happen to them all??

And I’m wondering how many of the more recently produced outdoor jackets (from any of the myriad of outdoor brands there are) will still be going strong after 30 years?? by @feralcrayon

Back to city life after a beautiful long weekend in the forest - a wonderful coven of women, yoga, meditation, wild swimming, sauna, stitching and reading lying in a field, and glorious conversations over delicious food.

A welcome retreat…and a timely reminder that no one needs permission to rest, a gentle pace of life is perfectly legitimate, being busy is not the only marker of success and a quiet day spent pottering and dilly-dallying is not a day wasted! by @feralcrayon

Sketching is an important part of the exploration process. paper and pencil (occasionally with a pint) are the best way for me to work through ideas - especially when things aren’t fully formed in my brain. The added bonus being I can take my sketchbook anywhere so it’s easy to sit outside and draw! by @feralcrayon

Last year I worked on a project with @zoda_fit. I helped translate their brand ethos into a design aesthetic to build their range of activewear. Great to see some of the products on their website. by @feralcrayon
